Funny...the one media report that has surfaced has mentioned Houston and Chicago. No mention at all about Carolina. Speculation much?
The Carolina job would been harder than the Texans job. Texans have more talent, better stadium, more money. I just don't see why Carolina would attract Cowher more than Houston?
Because he moved his family to North Carolina after leaving the Steelers. He and his wife both went to school in North Carolina, so clearly he has some kind of affinity for the area.
If he really wants to coach, and assuming his kids are out of high school, I don't think he would limit himself to just Carolina. That team has a lot of building to do, especially with finding a QB.
Hate to burst some bubbles but Carolina would no doubt be his dream job. He could still go to Chicago or Houston but rumors are that he would use them to up his price value.
lol, pretty much every other report about Cowher is--->Carolina. When Adam Schefter starts speculating, I start listening because Schefter is never wrong about anything....aaaaand, Schefter just said he thinks Cowher is going to be the Carolina Panthers next HC. btw, we should also note that the Texans aren't looking for a coach. yet.
I agree with this, but what in the Texans history suggests to you they are going to spend $10 million on a headcoach? McNair has to this point not spent big on a coach, and until Kubiak he refused to spend big on assistants either.
John McClain said on the radio today that Cowher, Gruden, Dungy, and Holmgren were *NOT* coming to Houston under any circumstances. I'm inclined to agree with him. I'm thinking we may be stuck with Kubiak simply because we will have no other options. Next year, however, the coaching market should be flooded with eager and willing talent.
John McClain said last week I think that Kubiak was not getting fired under any circumstance. That said, I think he's right. Cowher-Going to want $10 million and probably wants the Carolina job Gruden- Charlie P claims to have a great source that says Gruden is absolute about not wanting to return to the sidelines next season Holmgren- Apparently wants a Bill Parcells role instead of a coaching job Dungy- I see no reason to think he's ready to return to the job now, if ever, and even if he did I don't think he'd go to an AFC South team. He has no desire to stick it to the Colts.
It will make Bob McNair the most hated man in Houston for a summer, but it is a smart move. Gary's contract is up next year, he will have once last chance to get this team to 10 wins and a playoff berth. Anything less and he's done. By next the summer of 2011 there should be some better coaching talent available if Gary doesn't get renewed.
Thus McNair has gotten what he's paid for. He's a Thoroughbred horse owner so he HAS to figure out that Great coaches cost $$$$. I swear to God if they hire a loser or some "up and coming" assistant I will adopt the Saints as my NFL team.
I'm hoping it's lesson learned, at this point. He's trying to build a brand. 8 seasons in, he still hasn't done that. Hiring a coach with an identity does that. He has billions in this team....my guess is he wouldn't let money get in the way at this point. Having said that...I think he's intensely loyal, which isn't a bad thing. He's just going to have a helluva time "selling" 8-8 or less to this fan base again without looking like a joke.
That is what will happen if we fire Kubiak this year. So you need to get on the "Keep Gary" bandwagon, as ridiculous as that sounds.
I was under the impression this year was supposed to be "the no excuses year", wasn't it? What exactly are the excuses this year for a likely 8-8 type team? Schaub's been as healthy as he's ever been. You had some injuries here and there (most notably, Owen Daniels), but nothing unusual or unexpected for football. All teams suffer injuries throughout the year. I thought 10-6 would earn him his job unless a star coach was available (Cowher, etc). But 8-8? That's going backwards given that they did 8-8 last year without Schaub for a chunk of the season.
Yep. But unless something really unexpected happens in the coaching free agency pool, we're stuck. Gary is going to get away with his worst coaching performance of his career this year.
Bob McNair: "Great coaches dont go 8-8" So just assuming we go 8-8, how does this team rate with the other 2 8-8 teams? Are we a "better" 8-8 team?
