If Bill Cowher wants to coach your team, you write the check and give him the god damn clipboard. Nothing against Kubiak but he isn't in the same league.

he inherited 2-14. getting 2-14 to 8-8 is good.

i think there are lots of good coaches that could get 2-14 to 8-8. not every coach could, though. i don't know if kubiak can get us over the hump from good to great, though...that's a much harder step to make.

I like Kubiak. I think his offensive designs are fantastic. I think he and Rick Smith have done a great job building up the talent base of this team.

I know Charlie Palilo likes to say that every team has either made the playoffs or fired their coach in the time Kubiak has been here, but I think that's unfair. Most teams weren't devoid of talent like the Texans were, and those that were, like the Browns for instance, haven't rebounded and switching coaches has played a role in that problem.

Kubiak inherited a team with one really good player on it (Andre) and one above average player in Dunta. The rest of the team was mediocre at best, but generally sucky. He has built up a roster that has talent at nearly every position, has depth, etc. It's still not complete, but unlike Charlie and some fans who think there is no progress if the record doesn't improve, I think there is definitely progress.

I absolutely believe that Kubiak will have this team as a legit playoff contender next year, and one that could make a SB run the following year. That said, Kubiak still has all the same problems he's had from day one. He's bad at managing the clock, he's terrible with challenges, he's bad at late game/late half play calling, and he's still stubborn in the redzone. Those are problems that could cripple you. I would not fire Kubiak unless there was a clear upgrade available. If Cowher wants this job, I'd go for it. As a Kubiak fan, I recognize his limitations and I want this team to dare to be great.

The downside to Cowher is he might want to totally change this team into a 3-4 defense, but to fair, I'm not sure anyone on this defense is so good we should be afraid of that.

I agree but Mr. Mcnair does not strike me as someone ruthless or shrewd enough to pull a move like this.

I mean, I see him not as a guy who would be angry after last nights game, more as someone who would be in the coaches office with Kris Brown, Kubiak and Baby Skeletor all crying into their hands over the outcome. I hope I'm wrong but up to this point I've seen nothing to suggest he has bone in his body capable of a bring down the wrath of god type move. It has always been give the guys EVERY chance in world to prove they suck and then when I have absolutely no choice, no option I will swing the axe.

Carr, Capers, Casserly, Richard Smith, they were all well past a point when a reactionary decision would have been made.

Kubiak didn't go from 2-14 to 8-8 in one year.

A lot of it had to do with getting rid of incompetent boobs at head coach, GM, and QB.

    i didn't say he did.

and yes, a lot of it had to do with getting rid of bad coaches and GM's. Kubiak was part of that.

Kubiak deserves credit. He has taken a talentless team and completely replaced the roster. The team isn't great, but for the first season in Texans history you can look at the roster and honestly say they have quality players at every position.

Kubiak strikes me as a good coach to get a team to respectability but I wonder about how good he can get this team. Some of his moves make you stratch your head and others are brilliant. Could just be one of those guys that can't get over the hump similar to Wade Phillps in Dallas and even he got the Cowgirls to a 13-3 record a few years ago.

I wish there was some way to bring Cowher in as head coach, leave Kubiak as Assistant head coach/offensive coordinator, and somehow have Kyle Shannahan around still....

    Man that would be awesome.

Cowher is probably going to take a job this offseason in my opinion. There will be too many good gigs out there. I think the Cowboys, the Redskins, potentially the Bears, perhaps the Bucs, perhaps the Chargers...

As for Dungy, he's a total class act.

In my opinion, Cowher would give this team everything it needs. We need that little bit of nastiness. We need that edge. I got a taste of it last night, and I liked it. But we need a team that is going to play with that type of edge game in and game out. That gives you a distinct advantage. If you play with that edge, and the other team isn't willing to match it, nine times out of ten, you're gonna knock them in the mouth and have them reeling the entire game.

We need someone that is going to chew someone out when he screws up, THEN bench him.

I think, like others have said, if you bring Cowher in, you start to build a brand with an edge. You also immediately get national attention and games. If we somehow end up with Cowher, I guarantee you, we end up with no less than three national games next year.

If they finish 8-8 or worse (looking likely), Kubes has to go. Cowher would bring a winning identity to the team that we have never had. If the possibility is there, I think you have to make a hard run at Cowher.

I think Kubiak is a stellar OC, but a mediocre HC. Would Cowher try to keep him on as the OC, keep Shanahan, or bring in his own guy? Starting over on offense with a new playbook seems like step backward.

Would Cowher switch us back to a 3-4? That could be scary only because it may take a year or two to get his type of players.

    How is this looking likely?

What wins and losses do you see left on the schedule?

Didn't Cowher run a 3-4 defense in Pittsburgh? Would he try to change our defensive scheme to match that were he a coach? I don't know if I could go through another year or two of the defense sucking while the scheme was changed out. Were he to leave it as 4-3, I would have no problems with Cowher getting the job and Kubiak hitting the door.

But I think a lot of your seem to be expecting a lot more of Cowher than I think he would provide. The guy was paired with an excellent GM and front office in Pittsburgh during his time there. Not having albatross contracts and consistently getting great defensive talent through the draft can go a long way towards making a coach look good.

You're out of your mind if you think Cowher would come here and run the ZBS and keep us in a 4-3.

Although who knows, maybe the Chin wants to try something new?

    I feel ya
Kubes is a 1st time coach. He learning too.

I think Houston already set for the TAMPA TWO
    Dunte - Ronde Baber Role
    Mario - Warren Sapp Roll
    Pollard - Bob Sanders Roll
    D'Meco - [TAMPA'S ALL PRO LINEBACKER] Roll

Which is why I suggest Dungy
