Tony Romo makes that Dallas O-line look better than it really is. Half of the time he's making plays by avoiding the sack.
There is no way the Falcons take a look at him. We got Roddy White and Michael Jenkins, both guys had a good year. No way TD brings in a guy like T.O. to mess up the progression of Matt Ryan.
I'm a cowboys fan but i hope this move completely backfires. I would love for us to get in a position where we don't have a WR who can make a catch at those critical moments when we need a playmaker. This is speaking from that side of me that hates Jerry and his decision-making that has kept us out of the playoffs for over a decade. So, this side of me wants us to completely fail next season again and even finish under .500. On the other hand, I would be happy if this opened up our offense and other WRs stepped up. I'm not sold on Austin, Crayton, or Hurd. Roy Williams still has to find his way through a training camp with Romo...so they can get on the same page. I think Austin and Hurd are too delicate. Those guys get injured if you sneeze. Hopefully, we pick up another quality receiver.
this is a TERRIBLE move! you are just going to give away a 1000 yd receiver and get nothing in return?? you are giving away your best receiver, this makes no sense at all. TO is not a bad teammate, there are a lot of cowboys players that love that guy. I'm sorry that fumble machine tony romo doesn't like him, but romo needs to get over it. His only fault is that he says he wants the ball, o no, what a terrible thing to say Jerry Jones will regret this day next season.
I think if there were no media to sensationalize TO's every comment or move...then there would be no problem whatsoever. I recently heard reports that TO never had any problem with Witten and the actual problem in the lockerroom was with Bobby Carpenter (a nobody back-up who sucks and is only partially useful on special teams). Witten tried to step in to break up their disagreement. Then, it became TO and Witten were having problems in the lockerroom. Then, there was the persisent news about TO calling Romo/Witten out as doing their own thing with no ball distribution. I personally think the media ruined TO in Dallas. TO is way under the microscope...moreso than any other player out there. Those media fags are always looking at TO and looking to stir something up. They wouldn't let it be normal. Yes, TO said some things...but most of that stuff got blown way out of proportion. I agree that we got rid of a bigtime playmaker and got jack sh_t in return. How does the help this team? He was our only 1,000 yard receiver and he had stats that no other receiver in Dallas has had since Terry Glenn. Now, the burden shifts to Roy Williams completely. I guess if you can't get rid of Jerry Jones...then you get rid of the next biggest ego. This is all Jerry's fault anyway. He decided to turn this team into a bunch of ex-cons and troublemakers...and that failed miserably. He signs players to these crazy large contracts and they never perform after that. It makes the Kelvin Cato signing look like a picnic. He basically just throws millions of dollars at players he likes...and it comes back to burn him. Now, he's giving away millions.
Andre Johnson Larry Fitzgerald Anquan Boldin Randy Moss Reggie Wayne TJ Houshmandzadeh Brandon Marshall Steve Smith Roddy White Greg Jennings Calvin Johnson There's 11 WR's I'd take over Owens right now...regardless of the attitude. He's 35 and on the decline. Throw in the attitude and you've got the NFL's version of Barry Bonds...he can still play, but no one will touch him with a 100' pole...except for Al Davis.
I'd like to see him sign with an NFC East team just so we could watch him play the cowboys twice a year.
See I tell him that, but he just goes on and on about T.O being so physical and fast. I think the fact that he doesn't have sure hands is the difference, that and his crappy route running. Moss has him on both counts, but I'm cool with calling them about equal.
Good question. One of the good teams will give him a shot on their terms. TO will have less rope in his next gig than ever before. He will probably just get a one-year contract, which should totally de-fang him unless he wants to be cut during the season. I doubt the Pats or Colts go after him. Any team with a young QB (or a young coach) would be making a huge mistake signing TO. There are a lot of possibilities like the Giants, Titans, Cardinals, Bears, Vikings. No team is a perfect fit. If he is OK with joining a bad team, the possibilities are endless. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say the Titans.
Yeah, a ridiculous offensive weapon with a 3.7 YPC average and whopping 7.5 yards per catch. The only ridiculous thing Bush is is a ridiculously enormous bust.
I hope NYG or WSH picks him up...and steam rolls over Dallas because TO gives them that piece they were missing to be elite once again. Then, Jerry will look like a complete idiot after the end of next season...while TO has a ring. I would love for that scenario to unfold. Jerry deserves it.
I don't think he'll go to the Colts because of their unique culture, but I think this is spot on. Why would he go to a non-contender? It makes no sense. You know he would hate it, given his prime is probably two more years, max. Moreover, why would a non-contender do it? If it's not going to give you a chance at contending, then all signing Owens would do is potentially poison the locker room of a growing team and taking playing time away from guys you need to develop to truly be the future. It's not like he's a candidate for the veteran "set an example" role. Owens has to go to a contender, where he could legitimately be the missing piece and where there's a clear leadership structure already in place. That's the only thing that makes sense. The three scenarios that make the most sense are New York (Eli Manning), New Orleans (Drew Brees), and Minnesota, who doesn't have an established QB but does have a veteran group and Brad Childress, who coached TO in Philadelphia. My money is on one of those three. (P.S. I don't like the guy, but I think the Cowboys are making a mistake. Jerry Jones is the equivalent of a 5-year-old throwing a temper tantrum -- always has been, always will be. He didn't want to go back on his word and fire Phillips, he didn't have the money to make a marquee free agent signing or draft pick this year, so someone had to take the fall for the way last year ended up, and that person was TO. Owens is what he is, but there are a ton of problems with the Cowboys from a chemistry standpoint, and he's not nearly the source of all of them. From a talent standpoint, it's a huge loss. I like Roy Williams as a UT guy, but he's been an underachiever his entire career. In addition, even if Roy somehow makes the jump to replace TO as a legitimate No. 1 wideout, there's no depth behind him and they lack a first-round draft pick to help with that.)
Hmm... where could he land? Patriots (they have rehabilitated others..) Redskins (solid team with a need) Ravens (it was a different GM/Coach when he spurned them before) Titans (doubtful, Fisher won't put up with him) Chargers (solid team with a need) Cardinals (if Boldin leaves..)
I'll add Washington to my list to make it four. They make as much or more sense than anyone, but I didn't count them because I assumed they were out of money after the Haynesworth/Hall deals. But if they can make it work financially, as PFT and several other sources this morning seem to believe they can, I'd put them right up with the Giants and Saints/Vikings.
