I never specified what season. For all I know when people talk about Tmac on the GARM, they have to specify Tmac in Orlando or Tmac in Houston.
The way it was posted I took it as this season so you're right he was putting up Pro Bowl numbers.....back in 2006.
The Titans are going to be sooo much better when Pro Bowler Vince Young is back under center. The Cowboys did not need a WR. They needed a CB in the worst way. This is what happens when Jerry runs personnel. There was nothing wrong with the Cowboys offense that running the football would not solve. Miles Austin has played pretty well as the complimentary receiver. Paying two receivers big $$$ is a waste of resources.
In 2006 you saw a glimpse of what the real Roy Williams could do. I hate the Cowboys as much as the next guy but there's no denying the guy is a superstar talent. A young super star talent that is who still hasn't reached his prime. What's different was In 2006 you had Jon Kitna who was healthy and had arguably one of his best years of his mediocre career. The guy threw for 4200+ yards which is impressive by any standard even with a garbage o-line that allowed a ridiculous amount of sacks. Another important factor was Roy wasn't sulking then and didn't "shut it down". Also one other thing to note is you keep saying 2006 like it was so long ago. Like "way back in 2006 he had that 1 pro-bowl year." At age 26 pushing 27 he's barely made a mark in his career. He could be the Cowboys #1 receiver for a long time to come considering TO although a freak of nature is 34 pushing 35 and will not play forever. Miles Austin and Patrick Crayton go back to what they should be... WR 3/4 Perhaps you're a bit bitter since the Cowboys got a whole lot better and a nice receiver to boot that the Eagles definitely could have used. Sure they gave up a lot but they are in a WIN now mode much like the Rockets are. I sense a lil bit of jealousy... but that's natural considering you're an Eagles fan. PS I HATE THE COWBOYS!
I know this is a anti-Cowboy board but I thought I would throw in my two cents (at the risk of being flamed). As a Cowboy fine - I love this deal. Besides, I needed some good news after all the headlines associated with injuries and knuckleheads. This gives the offense a real second wide receiver now. So if teams want to continue to roll coverage towards T.O. they will have to do so with a greater risk of being beaten on the other side. I like Crayton and all but that guy is a third receiver and not a second. Once teams have to now focus on both sides of the field then things should open up for both T.O. and Witten. As far as those discussing how the Cowboys gave up too much, I think you have to first look at the resources they had at their disposal instead of at face value. Once you do this, I honestly do not feel they gave up too much. Before the deal, the Cowboys had 10 draft picks in next year draft - we gave up three but got back two: 7th rounder from Detroit and a 5th rounder from the Titans due to the suspension of Pacman. A know a first round pick is huge in the draft but it is obivous the Cowboys need another WR and I am not sure if a player of Williams caliber is available from the college ranks so in you have to think that he is your first round pick for next year. This is easier to take as the team already has a 5 year extension essentially agreed upon. The third rounder could be a decent player for a team but the Cowboys had two third rounders next year due to a trade with the Browns so in essence they were playing with house money. The sixth round was just a cost of getting the deal done but as mentioned earlier the team got back a 5th round pick and now get to keep their 6th round. The team will still have 9 draft picks which could be packaged to get into the first round if necessary. I think they got a player who can help them this year and in the future for basically one draft pick. Not bad at all.
The question is : Can TO co-exist with Roy Williams? TO was already complaining that he didnt get enough touches.
Oh please. The cowboys are as good as they are going to get at cb and they invested plenty in the position. They have Newman signed long term, Henry is solid, Jenkins is a was a solid 1st round pick, and Scandrick was a steal in the 3rd. The Cowboys did need another wr. If TO were to get injured or go totally mental again, they now have someone who can step in and be a #1 wr. The cowboys have been too dependent on an undependable TO and now they don't have to be. Austin has been awesome in the slot so far, but Crayton will be better there.
I'm shocked it was Chad Johnson. I thought Chad Johnson was destined to be a Dallas Cowboy. Chad Johnson and TO trying to co-exsit would have been fabolous... This is not as eye appealing but of course its destined to fail as well
I hate the Cowgirls but it looks like they got a good deal here. Even after the trade, they are still loaded in next years draft with 9 picks. a 2nd a 3rd two 4ths two 5ths a 6th two 7ths They just won't have a #1 pick. From another website: I think a 1st rounder and some extra picks that you don't need (since all picks need to be paid and there is a cap) is worth having Roy Williams as your #2 WR. How many teams have a #2 WR that good? As long as they have decided to lock him up long term then it looks like a win-win for everyone.
TO wants to win. He will be fine. If the Cowgirls can make it through these next 4 weeks they will be scary.
What makes you think I'm bitter? I have stated that I think he is better than most but not one of the best. He's a good wide receiver and a great upgrade from what they have but I wouldn't call him a superstar, he's not on that level. I'm sorry.
The truth is we'll have to wait to see what happens on both sides. The Lions could get some huge picks or some busts. TO was already whining about not getting enough touches, what happens when TO draws all the attention and then Williams' stats outshine his own? We'll see, I think they overpaid I mean the Patriots gave up only a 4th rounder for Randy Moss. Regardless of how many picks they have, I think they overpaid. We'll see though.
I agree that we will have to wait and see. The illustration that I was trying to make with the draft picks was that basically we got Williams for a first rounder, just one pick in total. As I mentioned - I think Williams will give us better production than any first year WR out of college and this is why I do not think they overpaid. You got a WR locked up for five more years to grow with the other young core group on offense. If you are the Cowboys you had to make this move to try and get the team focused again and stop playing like crap like the last three weeks. You are correct about Moss but I think you have to look at every situation in its own context. Oakland just wanted to get rid of Moss and the Patriots took advantage of the situation. As far as T.O. - there is a report out there that he asked Jerry for Williams phone number and was the first person to call Roy and congratulate him. I guess you can take this for what it is worth. If both of our teams don't start playing better than the December showdown might not mean anything.
