Certainly seems like the Cowboys overpaid. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3643295 And sounds like Jones was more than willing to overpay for his new toy. A+ for Detroit. We'll see how it works out for Dallas.
I'm going to wait to weight in on this until the dust settles and we find out which picks were really included. It its a 1st and 3rd then I'm not sure I like it. If its 3 picks with none being a 1st I'll like it a little better. Brad still has to be able to get the ball to the open man... now there should be more chances for everyone to be open with Williams running routes as opposed to Crayton and Austin
For as great as Owens is, he's starting to get a little older. Aquiring Williams gives them a go to receiver when Owens is gone in a couple years I guess. I think they overpaid though. The Cowboys have overpaid for recievers in the past. If they were going to trade first rounders, they should have gotten someone to shore up their suddenly depleted defensive backfield, or an impact middle linebacker to help on defense.
double post Should be interesting to see how this plays out in the locker room. We know TO isn't one to share the spotlight and if he's already complaining about the lack of throws to him, we'll see what happens when Roy comes in. Also, Roy Williams himself supposedly has quite an ego from what I've heard.
As I have said in other threads, the only thing Brad Johnson might do better than Romo is protect the football besides that no I don't think he'll do particularly well. He doesn't have the arm strength or mobility that Romo has and with games looming against the Giants and Buccaneers that can be dangerous.
Those that I posted weren't necessarily third rounders just second day picks (3-7 rounds) but yeah the talent you can get from second day picks is usually good.
The Cowboys O-line isn't very good imo at pass protection. Romo has masked that problem to a great extent because of his mobility in and out of the pocket. Last game, even Romo couldn't mask that problem. Imagine a statue back there trying to do it now....Bledsoe already did it.
stupid deal by the cowboys. Roy Williams isn't going to fix what has been ailing the cowboys(even before the injuries) and the cowboys were likely going to end up with roy w this offseason w/o having to give up draft picks. They've been making enough room under the cap for a while now to go get a top flight wr to pair with Owens. I'd say that the only way they really profit from this deal is if they get Roy locked down under contract early and they don't have to worry about bidding cap room for him against other teams desperate for a wideout. Roy is definitely talented though, and a more than capable #1 wideout.
I think it's very possible the Lions would tag Roy Williams in order to keep him from just walking away.
