Maybe you should talk to Bush about his respect for the troops especially the amputees... <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kUx0a49X9lU&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kUx0a49X9lU&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
I do not disagree with you on this. If you oppose the war, oppose the administration that is conducting the conflict. That is the thing simpleton people like this do not understand. It only makes them look ignorant when they protest recruiters who are trying to do their job! I understand people take certain avenues to get their message across, but come on! They could do better than that, its just classless!
I am a United States Marine from Lima Company 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines, i served in Iraq, did humanitarian mission during that tsunami in asia, then went back to Iraq, I don't have a left leg anymore, it was blown up by an IED, my left arm is also gone. Do i have any regrets? no i dont... ide do it again 100 times.. infact screw that, ide die for this country. Its one thing for you guys to protest us, infact i actually welcome that because thats what makes this country so great, her democracy... All i ask of you anti-war protesters is that if you do protest, please protest wisely.. if your going to close down or "attempt" to close down a recruiting station, and if somehow u succeed, who is going to fight for your right and for ure freedom to protest? Recruting stations are there for people with Balls and for people who love this country to go and pick up a rifle and man the walls. No one is forcing you to go to recruting stations, recruting stations are there for people who wants to serve you and for people who wants to keep your rights to protest them and to spit on them... If you dont have the balls to fight, then just sit back on ure couch and go watch porno.. let us do our job because no one else on this country will.... just remember, it took the united states of america alot of painful agonizing years after her independence to get on her feet, u cant expect iraq to be stabilized after only 5 years... u say 3,900 military personnel are killed, but i guarantee u this, not many of them regrets their death, because when we enlisted, we swore an oath to defend and protect the people and the constitution of the united states and if that requires my life or my arms or my legs, then so be it.... like the bible says.. "Theres no greater love than for a man to give up his life for a friend." 3,900 dead on our side for 5 years isnt really alot if u considered that the United States lost from 1,000-5,000 men a DAY during World War 2 for 5 years just so people all over this world could be free... if i were u, i would just say thank you... cuz thats all we really need... ure prayers and support, nothing else... Semper Fidelis!
Thank you for your service us_marine007 But please know, most responsible people here that do protest the war are protesting the policies of this failed administration, certainly not the brave men and women who has served this great country.
While protesting recruiters is not something I'd do, I certainly understand what drives some folks to do so. It's very hard to oppose the administration... Bush doesn't even talk to audiences unless he assured of at least a complacent group. Cheney rarely appears in public. Congressmen refuse to do much. It's sort of like the homeowner who yells at the cable guy because he's the only face of the anti-customer company that is available. The recruiters are an available target for frustration. Or perhaps it's more analogous to the far right nuts protesting abortion clinics and yelling at already distressed women because they can't talk to the Supreme Court justices... each group thinks their cause is morally righteous and the current policies lead to needless death.
GREAT POST. Thank you for setting some of these people straight. Thanks for your proud service of our great country.
Hey Texxx, why don’t you let us_marine007 know the reasons you haven't volunteered for military service?
Wow, thanks for your perspective, us_marine007. And of course, for your great service to our country. Hope you can post more often. Really makes me feel silly for being angry at every-day stupid things like traffic or an a-hole boss...
yeah i know, i am not a republican or a democrat, i voted for who i think is best for the office, during 2000, i voted for Gore, but After september 11, I voted for Bush. There is not a single administration that was perfect, every single administration has their mistakes.. it is just how we are, we are people not Gods.. we will always always make mistakes... I thought Bush did the right thing by going on the offensive, how many attacks has the united states suffered since the wars started? none... if we didnt go to war, americans would be dying because of terrorism... if we sent our men and women to fight, americans would still be dying, but hey at least if we send our men and women out to fight, we can kill a few of them aswell too! But did Bush had a smart war stratedgy? nope... he sure didnt... is he a good commander in chief? i would have to say our military could have had a better commander in chief.. but u cant really blame bush though.. if anything, it wad Donald Rumsfeld who screwed it all up... If you ask me who should be the next president... it should be Clutch! haha!
you could vote. oh, i forgot, we had one of those. well then, you could ask your elected representatives in the congress to vote for you. how's that working out?
thank you, both for your service, and for this post, which may be my favorite of the past 5 years. should be required reading for everyone on the bbs.
i'm truly sorry for the loss of your limbs. i salute your bravery and your opinion is a welcome addition to this forum. i think going after hussein was a terrible idea. there is no way to know how safe we would or would not have been had we abstained from going to iraq. i mean, as sketchy as things are in afghanistan, might we have done more damage to the islamofascist cause by concentrating our efforts there?
First, it's impossible to say what those 3,900 might think about their own death, but I wouldn't be surprised if a majority of their relatives have regrets. Second, your posts touches on the big disagreement about the war. It's not about the service and motivation of soldiers. It's not really about the number of deaths... though the fatality numbers are a widely used surrogate for the larger issue. The big question is whether or not you're being asked to stay true to your oath for a reason that makes sense. Many, many people, including a sizable number of current military, question whether the Iraq war is in the best interest of our country. Beyond that, many question whether the war is anything more than a domestic political maneuver that went horribly wrong. That's why you see protests... people think our country is being harmed by the war and are increasingly frustrated with their inability to have an effect on the people making decisions.
I would feel very comfortable with John McCain leading our armed forces as commander in chief. Hussein Ubama....not so much
