finally watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which got me thinking about some of Tarantino's other films. The soundtrack to Inglorious Basterds uses part of a Rare Earth track as a transitional theme from scene to scene. The music is the "outro" on What'd I Say, a cover of a Ray Charles song from One World. on the album, the outro segues directly into this track, which is about Vietnam, but fits Covid19 too:
This piece is from the 1989 Kenneth Brannagh movie of Shakespeare's Henry V. It plays during the famous St. Crispin's day speech that roused the English to victory in the Battle of Agincourt. A stunning victory against overwhelming odds. This music and the speech is one I would listen to before competitions or even major tests like my licensure tests. It's fitting during this time now when we're all under stress and facing the test of overcoming this disease. This is a long and difficult road and we're all suffering but we need to hang in there together and lift ourselves up: "We are but warriors for the working-day; Our gayness and our gilt are all besmirch'd With rainy marching in the painful field; There's not a piece of feather in our host-- Good argument, I hope, we will not fly-- And time hath worn us into slovenry: But, by the mass, our hearts are in the trim;" Henry V.
agreed, this music is wonderful. IIRC, an american figure skater used it during the olympics one year.
on June 29th, 1979 I saw Rickie Lee Jones in concert at the Orpheum Theater in Memphis. before the first song, she announced from the stage that Lowell George had died that day. This song was written for him by another friend, but the sentiments are universal.
The said friend also wrote a song for this singer on the same album. The 70s was a great era for singer songwriters.
