I especially love the commentary in the video where the lady says they're the first known primates to have come down with the virus. Oh, lady, if only that were true : Several gorillas at San Diego Zoo test positive for coronavirus
Big dip in vaccinations reported today at only 340k. They seem to be reporting numbers from 2001....so let's hope there was a data entry error lol. Didn't seem like any vaccinations were reported for places like FL and NY.
If you had told me 12 months ago that it would be good news that the happiest place on earth would be converted to a mass vaccination site, I would be very surprised. And that’s THE GOOD NEWS!
Before the pandemic, my family and I would go to Disneyland about once a week. Typically, we’d pick the kids up from school and spend the evening walking around, riding a few rides, and have dinner. This whole thing ****ing sucks.
**** **** ****. Cousin who lives out at the Marble Falls ranch and works for me just tested positive. He's got definite pre-existing conditions, mostly cardiac/circulatory related to good ol' Agent Orange, so this is quite possibly a death sentence. Only symptoms right now, started yesterday, are loss of taste and smell. Thankfully I haven't been around him since last Thursday, but I'm off to go get tested (again) anyway. He's been on the waiting list for vaccination for 2 weeks or so.
He should be in contact with a doctor, maybe should be on blood thinners, and maybe should just get checked into the hospital early if possible.
Wow, kind of crazy good finding. If so, I assume it's a fairly easy way to resolve "long-covid" and acute-covid with multi-system inflammation Gut microbiota composition reflects disease severity and dysfunctional immune responses in patients with COVID-19 | Gut (bmj.com) What are the new findings? Composition of the gut microbiota in patients with COVID-19 is concordant with disease severity and magnitude of plasma concentrations of several inflammatory cytokines, chemokines and blood markers of tissue damage. Patients with COVID-19 were depleted in gut bacteria with known immunomodulatory potential, such as Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, Eubacterium rectale and several bifidobacterial species. The dysbiotic gut microbiota composition in patients with COVID-19 persists after clearance of the virus. Significance of this study How might it impact on clinical practice in the foreseeable future? These findings suggest that depletion of immunomodulatory gut microorganisms contributes to severe COVID-19 disease. The dysbiotic gut microbiota that persists after disease resolution could be a factor in developing persistent symptoms and/or multisystem inflammation syndromes that occur in some patients after clearing the virus. Bolstering of beneficial gut species depleted in COVID-19 could serve as a novel avenue to mitigate severe disease, underscoring importance of managing patients’ gut microbiota during and after COVID-19.
We hit a new high in vaccinations reported at 951k. Texas is leading the way in the absolute number of vaccinations administered with 978k and then California at 891k and Florida at 705k. West Virginia is still leading the per capita numbers with 6.2% of their population vaccinated.
All these things were in effect before I made that post, and you're absolutely correct. Thanks for the thoughts. I just needed to vent.
The cure could be chronic.. https://www.forbes.com/sites/emilyp...rcSLCxK1jSLoynYEO0LE16d0g3nMw&sh=23b6b9a0d885 Researchers Are Looking At Cannabis As A Potential Way To Prevent COVID-19 Two Canadian researchers think that a special strain of cannabis might potentially be a valuable tool in the fight against COVID-19. The researchers, Olga and Igor Kovalchuck have reportedly been developing and testing a novel cannabis strain for years, except with the goal of creating a strain that helps to combat cancer and inflammation. When the pandemic hit, the duo started to focus their efforts on how the strain might be used to help fight COVID-19. The duo’s work was published in an April issue of the online medical journal Preprints. “Similar to other respiratory pathogens, SARS-CoV2 is transmitted through respiratory droplets, with potential for aerosol and contact spread. It uses receptor-mediated entry into the human host via angiotensin-converting enzyme II (ACE2) that is expressed in lung tissue, as well as oral and nasal mucosa, kidney, testes, and the gastrointestinal tract,” reads the study. “Modulation of ACE2 levels in these gateway tissues may prove a plausible strategy for decreasing disease susceptibility.” After looking at the research done on cannabis and COVID by other scientists, they were able to determine that cannabis, a special strain in particular, could potentially block COVID-19 from entering a person’s body to begin with. After looking at the research done on cannabis and COVID by other scientists, they were able to determine that cannabis, a special strain in particular, could potentially block COVID-19 from entering a person’s body to begin with. It all comes down to our body’s ACE2 receptors, which works sort of like doorways into our bodies for the virus. In the case of the Kovalchuck’s work, cannabis would be used to decrease the level of ACE2 gene expression, essentially temporarily closing the doors to the virus. Beyond that, it’s also possible that the strain could be used to prevent the virus from being able to propagate once it’s already entered someone’s system. “Cannabis sativa, especially one high in the anti-inflammatory cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD), has been proposed to modulate gene expression and inflammation and harbour anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties,” the study says. “Working under the Health Canada research license, we have developed over 800 new Cannabis sativa lines and extracts and hypothesized that high-CBD C. sativa extracts may be used to modulate ACE2 expression in COVID-19 target tissues.” Right now it’s still a theory rather than a confirmed fact; however, it offers some hope for the future. If they’re able to prove the idea, the next step would be to manufacture the successful strain into medical formations that could be used for prevention and treatment by the medical field. That’s to say you’re probably not going to be buying a random joint at your local dispensary that will prevent the virus. The couple is also quick to point out that just like your high, not every strain of cannabis is going to impact you in the same way. While it’s possible that they will be able to find a strain that can help prevent or treat COVID-19, there are also strains that could potentially make it worse. There’s no one-size-fits-all fix. “While our most effective extracts require further large-scale validation, our study is crucial for the future analysis of the effects of medical cannabis on COVID-19. The extracts of our most successful and novel high CBD C. sativa lines, pending further investigation, may become a useful and safe addition to the treatment of COVID-19 as an adjunct therapy,” the study says. “They can be used to develop easy-to-use preventative treatments in the form of mouthwash and throat gargle products for both clinical and at-home use. Such products ought to be tested for their potential to decrease viral entry via the oral mucosa. Given the current dire and rapidly evolving epidemiological situation, every possible therapeutic opportunity and avenue must be considered.”
They changed up the data layout on the vaccine page at the CDC. They separated 1st dose and 2nd dose and also added the vaccine company. https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#vaccinations We hit 1.13 million doses administered which is the first day over 1 million. Yesterday we were at 870k doses administered. Texas is the first state with over 1 million people receiving at least 1 dose at 1,003,412 people.
Hopefully this helps in getting the vaccines out (based upon what Biden outlined today, anyway) : Biden to deploy FEMA, National Guard as part of national vaccination plan Excerpts... Under the plan, the White House would enlist the support of FEMA and the National Guard to set up thousands of community vaccination sites to help states vaccinate more people. To support states, Biden said the federal government would fully reimburse states for their use of the National Guard. Under the plan, Biden would also jumpstart efforts to make vaccinations available in all pharmacies across the country and would launch mobile vaccination clinics designed to specifically reach underserved urban and rural areas. In addition, Biden vowed to use the Defense Production Act to help ramp up the supple[sic] of various vaccines.
