This is already posted im sure, but I heard this again, and I know they are already tons of covers of this song, and this is probably the most popular but for me this is still the best cover of this song, and better than the original.
Can't say better than Tom Waits but love me some Tim Buckley and Jeff Buckley also had some incredible covers that he truly made his own
I honestly think Colin Blunstone had one of the two or three most mesmerizing voices in pop music. It was the clearest, most distortion and overtone free vocalist ever - like a pure sine wave, but very airy and quiet and then compressed to hell by the engineer. It wasn't super versitile - sometimes you need someone that sounds like they'd just smoked a pack of Lucky Strikes - but any song by the Zombies sounds terrible covered by anybody else, IMO. In fact, when Blunstone got older he couldn't sing those pure tones, and post-70s nostalga-Zombies is pretty terrible compared to the original 60's era Zombies, too. Probably more than anybody ever wanted to know about what I think about the Zombies and their singer.
I forgot about this one. I know some may deem it blasphemy, but I definitely like it better than the Leonard Cohen original.
