Cousins is a head case. Griffin plays the right way. I say Griffin has the better career. I think he's reach Chris Webber status.
Griffin will be WAY better than Cousins. I laugh when I read people posting that Griffin is only a highlight reel. I purchased NBA league pass solely for the purpose of watching the Clippers play this season. I believe that griffin is already one of the top passing big men in the game. He consistently makes the correct pass out of the double team. Griffin is also starting to show a 15 to 18 foot face up jumper ala Timmy D. In the 47 point game he had a week or 2 ago griffin was hitting the 15 foot bank shot the whole game. The only knocks I give griffin at this point are that he shoots to low a percentage from the foul line and that he doesn't block more shots.
It's closer than you think. A good comparison is Dominique Wilkins. He was great and is a HOF, but he is never a candidate for GOAT or even best big man of all time the way that Jordan, Shaw, Magic, Bird, Kobe, Duncan is. Basically, Griffin looks exceptional and will be an amazing player and a HOF. I voted for Cousins because I went for the vote that is less safe and has the potential to be ONe of those top 3 - 5 big men of all time. Either way, both of them have great potentials. Grif is the safer bet to have the better career, but Cousins has that potential to be amazing. I almost voted for Grif anyway, but wanted to make it interesting.
I'm really surprised Cousins is actually getting a lot of votes, are you serious? Blake Griffin is putting up amazing number, works extremely hard, is already one of the most coordinated players in the league and just gets "it". Cousins is fine now and I actually believe he'll end up being an all-star center, maybe even best center in the league. BUT, Blake Griffin is a once in a decade player. I would put him up with Lebron, Duncan, and Shaq, in that the all came into the league playing great. Look what happened to them. Blake is the real deal, not because he knows how to dunk, because he is great.
Definitely Griffin; if Cousins can't get a grasp on his attitude problem he could very much turn into Eddy Curry 2.0. Griffin is more athletic, doesn't have an attitude problem, and skill wise is very much ahead of Cousins.
in terms of longevity and not relying on athleticism over a CAREER, hence the title, i would choose cousins. griffin has already had one season ending injury.
According to this board both won't last long Griffin out with injuries Cousins out due to weight issues
I might choose Griffin in this thread, but him revolutionizing the position might be a bit much. There are and have been too many great forwards in this league to say that. It would have to be someone who as strong and skilled as Karl Malone; Dirk Nowizki's shooting range; Kevin Garnett's athleticism and defense (the person who was originally slated to revolutionize the position); and Webber's passing ability. Granted, not to say Griffin won't be a great forward, because he is of the last few power forwards to come out of the draft over the last 6 years. He's probably easily the best of that group. Griffin will probably end up being the better player, BUT I would not sell Cousins short, especially with his talent, size, and this just being his rookie year. He's a pretty good player/prospect, compared to the last few big men coming out of the draft. With Cousins's skill set and lack of quality centers, he can be a great low post player and I can also see him being a better defender than Griffin. The fat thing for Cousins is overblown, as the injury plague hitting Griffin.
Its his rookie year. Derrick Coleman and Curry looked pretty good their first few years in the league as well. The weight becomes an issue 3+ years down the road when the pounding takes its toll and the extra weight leads to all sorts of injuries/setbacks which the player can't recover from simply because he doesn't possess the mental discipline to keep himself in check. With Cousins he's not just battling weight issues like Coleman or Curry, he's also battling head case issues like Starbury, Spreewell and Sheed. Coleman's rookie year (23 yrs old) per 36: 18.9 pts, 10.5 rebs Curry's at age 20 per 36: 19.5 pts, 8.1 rebs Cousins at age 20 per 36: 18.5 pts, 10.6 rebs Also didn't realize Cousins has been shooting a miserable 0.433% FG this year. People never really learn, do they?
