I'm sure F-bombs and much worse are dropped every night by a lot of players in the league, not really a big a deal. Ariza's attitude is bad, but don't think that he's the only one. Also, swearing in front of kids is demonized way too much. Everyone learns swears at one point anyways, so trying to shield children from everything negative for as long as possible is pointless. I'd rather kids learn sooner than later.
My stance is that it is a good thing that fans get emotionally involved in the games (the team must think so too considering they pay for the Red Rowdies' seats and give out noise makers to fans). They are PAYING to be there, not getting PAID to be there. If fans did not emotionally invest in professional sports franchises then those franchises wouldn't exist and those players would be working a 9 to 5 (or in McGrady's case, sleeping on his mom's couch). This fan was doing what fans are supposed to do. He was excited about the game and yelling to a player. I don't care what context he said what he said in. He didn't curse or say anything inappropriate. If Ariza cannot take constructive criticism from a fan then he has much bigger problems (and subsequently so do the Rockets) than the fact that he sucks at basketball. It's really not the cursing that bothers me. If you take your kid to a game you should expect him to hear some f bombs. It's the fact that Trevor is such a mental marshmallow that he feels the need to hell at a ROCKET FAN and explain his actions on the court.
When did I ever say people should get emotionally involved? I am simply referring to self control.... there is a difference. I don't think noise makers and yelling AT players, not TO players, are on the same level. So, this guy is supposed to tell Ariza what he should do better.... or what he is doing wrong... gotcha. The reason it matters how he said it is because that can make the difference between constructive criticism and it not being constructive.... I am sure you are aware of that. Sucks at basketball? Ok.... Mental marshmallow? So, some random person says they heard someone say something, and has no proof, and that means now Ariza is guilty of being a "mental marshmallow"...... I see!
Yes, fans yell AT players. That's perfectly acceptable conduct and is expected by the league, officials, coaches and players. If someone crosses the line, they are removed. As far as me saying Ariza sucks at basketball, he does. Look at his numbers. The mental marshmallow comment is justified too. This incident is just another incident on the list of times this punk has lost his cool for no good reason. I assume you watch the games? Did you see him try to elbow someone in the back of the head, yell at Brooks (several times this season), throw his hands in disgust when he doesn't get the ball (even when someone else has a better look at the basket) or sulk around on the bench?
If he was playing well no one would care. Whether he throws f-bombs or not is irrelevant. Heck, Battier launched an f-bomb that I heard throught the tv sitting at home. But no one will make a thread about it because Battier is playing well.
I know people do it, I don't think it acceptable and don't care if a player yells back. Why should it be acceptable for one to yell but not the other? I have seen some things, but nothing horrible. The worst thing I saw him do was throw some elbow's when he got mad, and then he said he was sorry. Not the first time I have seen players throw elbows, even players that are elite in the league. Should it happen? No... but people get frustrated, and some times emotions get the best of us. What's Ariza.... 24? Make any decisions you wish you hadn't when you were his age? Of course not!!!! If this is the worst he ever does (an elbow that didn't connect, the occasional outburst on the floor)..... well, I imagine it won't be talked about much after he is done playing.
dont be so dense. you dont ever see any of our other players blaming/yelling at teammates for a mistake they made. you can be emotional or yell or cuss, whatever, but dont blame/yell at your teammates for something you did
How do you know that has happened? Do you have audio at what Trevor Ariza is yelling? Maybe someone missed an assignment or messed up a play? These are grown as men, they can handle some yelling If it gets the job done. I don't think he is hurting anyones feelings out there...
really? i guess ill be on the look out for that because i dont really see it. i guess AB's play is so much better than ariza's, i dont notice. you SAW it. when someone is facing a person and yells at him.... you kinda put two and two together. he did it on court. he could of at least waited til the huddle before yelling at battier for something he did
As soon as the other players on the team start having a problem with it, then I will consider it an issue, until then it's just fans over reacting like fans do, or getting "emotionally involved" as another user has suggested. Why should I care if his team mates don't? It's not uncommon for players to yell in any sport, it happens all the time. I have played with people that do, and it's no hard feelings, it just happens.
cmon man, do you ever play pick up games or intramural games? getting yelled at for something you didnt do when youre playing your hardest is not something you want to happen. it's frustrating and messes up the whole mood/chemistry of the game.
Well, to be honest, I don't think the NBA (where the professionals play) and some pickup game, are really comparable.
i guess doctors dont get sick like normal people and NBA players dont miss their free throws or shots because of pressure/distractions/etc
I would not care if he said a bad word every second of the game, if he would just quit shooting up air balls! I hate that S.O.B.
/facepalm youre implying that NBA play is on another level, mentally. so much so that they arent affected by the actions i mentioned above like people are affected in pickup/intramural games. im saying they are human and react and respond the same way 'normal' people do. i hate having to spell everything out for you.
I never said they are on another level mentally, you said that. I said you can't compare the NBA to a pickup game you are playing with your friends. If you are getting paid millions to do something, someone screws up or even you just get a little heated and yell out a couple words.... no big deal. If you are playing with a few of your friends or something and do the same, they will probably take it a little differently.... do you disagree? It happens all the time, players get a little worked up about things (it's a physical game after all, more so than a pickup game with your co-workers) and might yell.... big deal. So, if they are human, and react and respond the same way normal people do, then there is nothing wrong with them yelling back at a fan who is yelling at them right? Afterall, a fan is a "normal" person right? No one is making you do that, it's your choice. Some times, something might be perfectly clear to you (your the one that came up with it after all, if it didn't make sense to you, you probably wouldn't have typed it) but it might not make sense to someone else. We don't all think the same. So, rather than do the /facepalm or speak (type) in a condescending manner, maybe try to be a little more constructive and understanding of differences in the way people interpret things.
