If a player can't ignore/block out a fan who was simply doing what fans do (with no insults or profanity) then it tells you all you need to know about that player's focus and mental toughness. If this was an isolated incident or if Trevor was the type of guy who gets fired up by some light-hearted jawing with fans it wouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately, Trevor has shown us that he likes to yell at team mates, throw mini-tantrums on the court when he doesn't get the ball and throw elbows at defenders who are not looking and unable to defend themselves and now he does this. Add his horrendous offense to all of those things and it makes it really hard to root for this guy.
First off players get paid to handle business on the court. If you get paid millions of dollars and can't tone down your emotions and stop yelling at fans then maybe you need a career change. And players can say what they want to fans, but they still can be fined for it so they don't have immunity for their actions towards fans. If a fan is cussing and disturbing the game for others around him he can be asked to leave so fans have to watch themselves as well as players do. For example look at baseball players they get the most **** in all of sports. Outfielders are porched out their by themselves and get booed/jeered all game long, do you see them getting pissed off and cussing out fans ? They turn it into a joke or something entertaining. Most good players can turn off the fans negative noise and turn it into motivation. Apparently Ariza sucks at the social aspect of the nba and the game itself.
Fans should not poke their nose into players actions during the game, when players are under stress. Players are human and professional Basketball is a man's game for real men. Interfere with the game and one should expect a strong reaction from the players.
off the top of my head, i remember a game where ariza was dribbling into the lane and, like usual, he ran into a dead end and threw it out of bounds trying to pass it to battier when he was cutting from a back screen/wasnt looking. what did ariza do after he messed up that possession? he yelled/blamed it on battier. im sure someone here remembers that. edit: what Dave_78 said a few posts up
I really hope Clutch will start letting regularly writing members give neg rep, because this post deserves neg rep, if not a ban. And he yelled back at a fan. Who gives a flip?
He probably didn't even see the 7 year old even if he did there are drunk cursing fans all around the arena so if you don't want your 7 year old to see that don't take your 7 year old to the game.
To me, though, it sounded like he tried to blame his teammates to defend himself from a random fan yelling at him. Not cool IMO
I have to seriously question the logic of this post and ask you for a point by point explanation of how Trevor Ariza looks like a terror threat in this picture.
Spot on. Why some of you choose to over look this I don't know, sure we are all frustrated with Ariza at times but the profanity thing is a joke... plenty of players yell the F word when they mess up.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for cussing as 8-year olds. I was very surpised to hear him yell directly at ONE fan. I don't care either way. This seemed like it would be a polarizing topic, and I'm right. For people that don't believe me, stop being poor and sit in the good seats.
Oh, so players aren't ever allowed to react to idiot fans, but fans can yell and say whatever they want? Mmmmmk! Oh..... I see what you are saying. Since players get PAID so much, fans have the right to say whatever they want, and those players just have to take it, because they get paid so much. An outfielder in baseball would be VERY stupid to react to fans in the outfield. The fans are at a CLEAR advantage to the player. Anyway, still doesn't give fans the right to throw things at players, tell players they suck all game, all that garbage. It's just a complete lack of class and makes the game less enjoyable for me when I go. Ok, so he's not allowed to get a little pumped up during games. I have seen little from watching the games that make me think "WOW!!! This guy has some real attitude problems!". One example of him "yelling/blaming" someone (whatever that actually was) isn't enough to say he has problems. Seriously, I know it's the IN thing to do (bashing Ariza for every little thing possible), but maybe some of you guys should step back a bit and relax.
This is a non issue, other than Trevor should not be so sensitive to what a fan says. Still.....to me, not a big deal at all. DD
It's part of the game. They get paid to for people to watch them play ball and react. If the story is true, the fan didn't say anything out of line or use profanity so how is he an idiot?. The guy was emotionally invested in the game and yelled something to a Rockets player. That happens to every player at every game for his entire career. The players expect and should be able to either laugh it off or ignore it. Every other player does it, why can't Ariza? I'm the first one to get down on a fan who is throwing out insults about a player or his family (like the Orlando fan did to Deke a few years back) but this fan wasn't doing anything wrong. As I've said before, it's not a big deal but when you add it to the body of work that Trevor has created here in Houston it's just one more knock on a guy who is a disappointment as a player.
Outside of a couple of instances (and this one is only speculation), I am not seeing it. I know he probably shouldn't react to a fan, but the fan shouldn't be harassing him either IMO. You don't know what kind of context he was yelling at him, and maybe there were other fans saying other stupid stuff that the OP missed.... who knows. I don't have a problem with fans reacting to these guys playing ball, as long as they are not directed directly at the players.... I am just not a fan of the mob mentality or some idiot in the stands harassing people that they wouldn't dare harass on the streets or out in public. Fans think that they can do whatever they want when they get in a stadium because they know the players will get in MORE trouble if they do anything back. Put some of these idiots out on the street next to one of these guys and see what they say. Should Ariza be able to take it? Sure, it would be in his best interest. Should the fan be telling Ariza what he needs to do? Not really, that's why he is in the stands and Ariza is on the hard wood.
Who cares even if it happened? If parents are that sensitive then don't take your kids to the front row of a sporting event. Lol.
Ya ll are acting like its so bad to say a curse word. He explained what happend and cursed so what? Its not like he pulled a Marcus Vick and flicked the guy off. That would have been much worse lol. The little girl probably knew what the F word was in the first place or she will probably find out what it is in the next year or so. People are getting so sensitive these days. And wassup with people saying Ariza looks like a terrorist with the nappy sideburns? Racist a bit?
