In yer freakin' dreams, buddy. :p
That's amazing, I thought you were quite well traveled.

Atlanta is in the northern part of Georgia, about 800 miles northeast of Houston. Just trying to be helpful. :D

Thanks for the info. I think we stand in a much better position now to make a deal.

This exception would be good for only one year, I assume, and so any deal that we make would have to keep a rein on the term of any contract to stay w/i the limits of the threshold of the luxury tax boundary that may be set for next year.

So if we don't find an appetizing deal with that in mind then CD would be more inclined to let the exception slide to keep w/i the limit that Les may have set.

Obviously, everything is relative on the "sweetness" of a deal that may be put together. :p

A Disabled Player Exception expires 45 days after it arises. If we are granted one, it will arise the day of Mo's surgery, and will expire 45 days from then. Weird, isn't it, but that is the way it works. The idea is to prevent people from holding back on a petition to wait for good free agents to arise.

Pops, someone may have already asked you this, so if they did I apologize. What are the chances of getting Chris Gatling? Also, is a sign and trade with GS possible in getting Jackson and Mookie while giving up Walt, Moochie, and a pick (Whatever makes the numbers work out)?

    OP,

I just tried this trade on RealGM & it works. Assuming that we get the medical exception & Jackson would accept it (I can't see why he wouldn't), would you consider this three way trade?

Houston sends Walt/#1 pick to Golden State.
    Houston sends KT to Washington.

Golden State sends Mookie to Washington.
Golden State agrees to not match our offer to Jackson.

Washington sends Hubert Davis/Jahidi White to Houston.

Houston gets an experienced SG, a defensive stopper, & Jackson to play the 4/5 without having to renounce Moochie, while only losing KT/#1 pick. Team salary only increases by ~$800,000, which would mean that we would only be about $500,000 above the cap, with just Moochie left to resign.

Golden State gets Walt's expiring contract, a #1 draft pick, some sorely missing outside shooting, & move a negative influence from the team.

Washington gets a veteran PG with an expiring contract. They are loaded at the SG position & need a veteran starting PG. They drop about $400,000 in salary this year, with Mookie's $5.4 mill dropping off next year.

We could then pursue a deal that would send Cato to Chicago. If the, as of now, unsubstantiated whispers of Curry coming to Houston were to materialize, we could have a long term future lineup of:

    C: Jackson/White/Curry/Collier
    PF: MO/Griffin/Jackson
    SF: Rice/Langhi/T-Mo
    SG: Mobley/Davis
    PG: Francis/Moochie

Some of the players, like Collier/Langhi/Moochie, might have to be included in the Chicago deal to make it work, but that would still give the Rockets an extremely bright future. Even without Curry, that team holds a lot of promise for the future of this franchise.

Dammit you guys, stop trading Mookie!!

    :)

Seriously, I don't see the Warriors trading Mookie before midseason, if at all. He's not as much of a "negative influence" as you seem to think -- no, he's not devoting a hellacious amount of effort to pulling the team wagon (motivationally speaking), but he's not dragging behind it or swinging an axe at the wheels, either.

And until Hughes proves himself at PG and Richardson shows he's ready to start at SG, Mookie's too valuable on the court for the Warriors to give up.

He's the only established true PG on the roster, and Cowens is old-school enough that he likes having skilled veterans who know the game out on the floor, especially in the 4th quarter. (This security-blanket appeal is why I think you'll also see Chris Mills getting more minutes for the Warriors this year than a casual fan might expect.)

If GS really wanted to unload Mookie, he'd be gone by now. I mean, it's not like it would be hard to find a taker for a skilled PG with a short contract. (For instance, I'm sure Detroit would have taken him for Mateen Cleaves.)

    1. Manny - Gat would not hurt us. I really like his "win at all costs" attitude and his contract (around $4M/year) is over next summer. He is an aggressor with a good all-around game (Off-Def). All that being said ... I guess he would be up there with the other prospects we have been looking at ....

    2. Swopa - nobody likes a smart azz. Well actually my oldest daughter always seems to go for one .... okay, so I don't know exactly where he is ... but I do know where Atlanta is ... ;)

    3. Hottoddie - sounds too complicated to me. LOL. I would take everyone you set up ... If you mean we end up with Jahidid White and Jackson along with Hubert Davis but lose Walt and Mooch and KT .... BUT .... I think we would be better off with Mookie (trade for Walt and Mooch) and Jackson(GSW agrees to keep hands-off) straight up for Moochie and Walt. I don't want to lose KT this year ... and although I really want Moocjie back, I would rather have a veteral Mookie Blalock with a one year contract in the back of Steve than Davis. call it personal preference. I think a Mooch/Walt for Mookie/Jackson would be easier and doable. PS Don't hold your breath on Curry. BTW: As the Goodwill Games end - plan on seeing more movement of players. It's justt plain tacky to trade a guy while he is representing your country .... Wally - see ya .....

    4. Swopa - I agree that Dave Cowens would have a soft spot for Mook's style, but he has inherited a lot of problems in GSW-land Unloading Mook would not be difficult for him IMHO. Also, a number of factors were in the works this summer for GSW trades and Mookie's name was right in the thick if things. I don't agree that if they wanted to trade him, he'd be gone by now. He's still on the market. I do not think Blaylock is a negative influence ... you didn't get from me ... sorry if I gave that impression. I like his game, his leadership and his two-way court presence .... I like his contract ... I actually think he would be bursting at the seams to get here.

    Cheers ya'll.

I'm not questioning that GS has explored the idea of trading Mookie -- as I wrote elsewhere earlier this summer, I think he probably asked them to. But I don't think they'd be willing to pull the trigger unless they received in return a solid PG with a reasonable contract (you tell me which of those criteria eliminates Charlie Ward).

On more minor points, it was Hottoddie who described Mookie as a negative influence, so my comment on that point wasn't directed at you. And though I suppose anything's possible, I stand by my belief that Mookie would be gone already if he was going to be moved this summer. Historically, I don't think September is a big month for trades; if two deals go down leaguewide between now and the opening of training camps, I'll be surprised.

The possible Nuggets-Hawks trade discussed in an NBA Dish thread (and their flirtation with Rider, mentioned in the same thread) may provide a clue to the Omar Cook mystery that's been kicked around here.

Both the proposed trade and signing Rider would claim extra roster spots, and the Nuggets don't have many left.

Still, I don't foresee Denver simply letting Cook go free. Their dream scenario would be to hold onto his rights (because they offered him a contract) while letting him gain experience elsewhere -- whether that's Europe or a U.S. minor league. But the only way to achieve that is to offer a contract that Cook won't sign. [IMG] [IMG]

I like the Orignial Rockets Chuckster and all guys, but c'mon. Don't you think Pig Miller would be a better choice? He runs the break better and can rebound very well.

Pig is the man in this equation.

What an exhausting horrible week ....

    Swopa:

” … tell me which of those criteria eliminates Charlie Ward…”
Call it hometown narrow-mindedness or simply an astute observation(I like that one), but Charlie Ward for whatever reason, has never expanded his game to a starters role. I fear he has shown everything he has got, and that seems to be a perennial “bridesmaid” second tier PG. Mooch on the other hand has not shown his full game IMHO, and with some accelerated experience could even start as PG on a lot of teams. GSW included.

I will agree with you that Omar may be kept and sidelined to Europe or the development league. But I still think he will be traded. If no other reason, than (sorry Nugzfan) Denver has never shown a lot of patience nor foresight in the past. Cook is a gamer. Someone will want him this year.

P.S. What in the hell is that picture? ;)

    Pimpster:

Both Chuckie and Pig have merits. I really like them both. I am a fan of Pig’s consistent game, and I like how Chuck changed his game in Charlotte and San Antonio to fit the roster. Both would be an asset to this team as a second/third tier role player. No question about it.

But the outcome at the PF spot this year will determine any questions of who – Chuck or Anthony – is the better choice. In most of the scenarios I played out (Do Nothing (-P or –C), Jackson (-P), Mason (-P), White (-C) , Move Collier over (-C), Davis (-C), Move Griffin up (-C) ) … my opinion, anyway …. is that Chuck would have an edge as a better fit with more of the moves (-above).

As soon as I get the words "World" "Trade" and "Center" out of my head for more than 30 seconds, I am going to post a ten-point treatise on why Chucky is a way better fit than Mason: the primary reason is flexibility. Salary, playing time, requirements from teammates, etc. Chucky was not an All Star last year, but he is the better fit now -- the best fit now -- forget the fact that I am literally the worlds biggest CBrown Fan.

more on this later. why don't you people just trust me -- FOR ONCE -- on this move.

Hey oeilpere, glad to see you're doing ok! :) Do you know what the Rockets chances are of getting Anthony Mason? I think signing him alone makes us a 7th or 8th seed. And what are our chances of still trading for Jahidi White? I think getting Mason and White would make us a pretty high seed in the playoffs. What about Marc Jackson? I can understand if you can't get anything now, with all of this going on, just wondered if you had any info. Just trying to get my mind on something else for awhile! :(
