I hate all of you people. My wife and I are going to forego children just so we can travel (all right, there's more reasons that that).....yet the only countries I've been to outside of the states are Mexico and Canada. St. Croix and Venezuela are coming up pretty soon for work, and we're supposed to go to Europe next year. So far, my favorite place has been Vancouver and Victoria in BC. I've also been to Alberta and Quebec...as well as Mexican border towns and Cancun.

I've been to a bunch of states though, and I think there's quite a bit to see right here in the good 'Ol US (or maybe I'm just jealous).

    I've been to:

    Texas (of course)
    New Mexico
    Arizona
    Nevada
    Washington
    Idaho
    Montana
    Wyoming
    Colorado
    Oklahoma
    Kansas
    Nebraska
    South Dakota
    Arkansas
    Missouri
    Louisiana
    Mississippi
    Florida
    Gerogia
    Ohio
    Kentucky
    Illinois
    Indiana
    Maine
    New Hampshire
    Vermont
    Massachusettes
    Rhode Island
    Connecticut
    New York

Squatting on old bones and excrement and rusty iron, in a white blaze of heat, a panorama of naked idiots stretches to the horizon. Complete silence-their speech centers are destroyed-except for the crackle of sparks and the popping of singed flesh as they apply electrodes up and down the spine. White smoke of burning flesh hangs in the motionless air. A group of children have tied an idiot to a post with barbed wire and built a fire between his legs and stand watching with bestial curiosity as the flames lick his thighs. His flesh jerks in the fire with insect agony.

Interesting topic. I just got back from Japan and might live there next year (my fiancee is Japanese and currently working there; she might come here, it all depends on jobs). Tokyo is fascinating and has so much to see, and having people there (fiancee, her friends) to introduce me to the place makes it all the more interesting. But it's a pressure-cooker: no extra space to speak of, miles and miles of congested humanity, anthills. I also visited Sapporo, on the northern island of Hokkaido, which, at this time of year, is beautiful: low mountains cloaked in green. (Winters are harsh, so I visited at the right time.)

Italy. THE PICKPOCKETS IN ROME GOT ME, TOO!!! (They're damned good at what they do.) Rome has its drawbacks, but if you're willing to walk a lot, you can see so much. Absolutely beautiful, cosmopolitan, a little crowded and dirty but, on the whole, great to visit.

I lived in Sicily four years while in the Navy. Loved it. Great food, great people, haunting landscape, lovelier near the shore and in the hinterland something of a moonscape (centuries of deforestation: kinda sad, but still pretty).

London. Expensive and bad food. They're kinda jaded as far as tourists go. On the whole, nice, but take the $$$ if you go.

Bavaria. Austria. Oktoberfest. Green, mountainous, gorgeous landscape, lotsa beer. I have never been so drunk without throwing up. Highly recommended.

Iowa. Uh, hmn. Hmn. It keeps the Midwest from imploding.

My list is much smaller than some here.

    Canada
    Mexico
    Bahamas
    Caymans
some British island in the Caribbean (I can say I want to GB!)
    Brazil

That's it [IMG]. I hope to go to Europe in a year though...

TPL: what allows you to travel so often?

    Haven,

Most of the European countries I visited were just vacation.

My dad was/is in a business field that allowed me to travel to these places with him.

What did you do while in Brazil? I plan on going there sometime soon and going into the rainforest. I heard it's quite an experience.

You probably stayed on the coast though I assume.

TPL: Nah, I just went to Rio. I would have liked to go to the rain forest, though [IMG].

My grandfather had a business conference there; his company was trying to gain marketshare in South America, and they sent him. He got to bring someone, and my grandmother didn't want to go; lucky me! I had fun, even if I was hanging with a number of old businessmen [IMG]!

My list is also relatively small...although in terms of total miles travelled I'd probably be up there...as with most of these places I've been to multiple times

England--London is the most depressing city in the world if you ask me. I don't recall ever seeing the sun shine there...and I've been 5 times.

France--Better than London, but still wasn't all that impressed...I guess now that I'm older I would enjoy it more.

Saudi--What struck me about Jeddyah (he only city I visited) was that everything was the same color...the buildings were the same sandy color as everything else...kinda strange.

Seychelles--Most of you probably haven't heard of this place...it's some islands off the coast of Africa...if you know about this place you're probably a geo major or something...if not let me know how you've heard about it cause typically it gets no pub over here in the states. Been there 7 times and spend my summers there...most beautiful islands in the world.

    Hey Davo,

How is Monaco? I'm seriously thinking about just flying over there and living for semester. But that'd mean I'd have to get a Visa, which means I'd have to find a job/internship ahead of time. I've researched that place a lot, and the employment rate is spectacular, and it doesn't seem that many US students intern there at all. It just looks great on all the websites...I was just wondering what you thought of your time there.

Kim - I really liked Monaco, but I have only visited it twice - once on a scooter that I rode along the coast from Cannes (so I could ride around the formula 1 circuit) and then again to visit a night club. I have never lived there or anything so I don't know what to tell you about that aspect. I have heard that Residents of Monaco don;t pay tax, so that is one advantage.

What I will say is that Monaco and the whole coastal region around the south of France and West Italy is absolutely SPECTACULAR. If you spent a semester there you would not regret it for that fact alone.
