The hard facts for those of us who watched game after game. I just have never understood the devotion some fans have for this guy. Highlight reels, yes, but game to game, he was no elite PG. He never demonstrated the skills of even an average PG. So many critical errors at critical times. Sooooo many turnovers. Soooo many missed jumpers. Soooo many botched fast breaks. Sooo many bad passes. Could he jump high, yes. Could he dunk, yes. Elite PG, no. Please take him, somebody. I would be ecstatic for TMac, but I could think of MANY other trades that would benefit the Rockets.
Steve is the most overated player in the NBA. He plays with heart and desire, but his brain is the size of a walnut. Good riddance. DD
Its pretty sad and pathetic they you guys would sit and obsess potential exit. His had only one year under VG's system and has been set-up for failure the second VG came in. Give the guy a break. Gees give at least second year to improve. It not like he didn't improve at all this year. I swear you guys want **** to happen in a finger snap. I hope if he leaves the he play well and make you regret it... or he finally get into his grove and all of the haters suddely " holly **** SF is badass" bandwagon starts... If any of you have faith at all, you believe in your players during their highs and most importantly throught their lows... Dont call yourselves real fan of SF, the Rox, or Houston, if you are going to jump ship and start dawging people when **** is bad.
Do you really want to doom our Rockets to years of mediocrity...just to make it a living hell for us? Well, you'll go down with that ship too if Francis stays. I mean, do you want us to just be average for the next few years (is you real name Lakerman95)? By the way, those of you that will feel "sad" to see Francis go, will soon forget that sadness once we start winning with a McGrady/Yao lead team. Success has a tendency to cure "sadness."
Come on, put your money up. Name the date, or bet he stays. Fork over some bandwidth for your ge-jawing. Tmac article mentioned the 15th. I'm guessing by contract date it's already done.
so even if we can make the team better, u dont want to trade francis? Tmac is clearly better than francis. I dont see how u can call yoursel a rockets fan. More like SOF.
well that's anybody's guess. i don't think he'll get less shots. but maybe no more shots either. tmac will take away some of Cat's shots too. so there should still be enough shots around. all i'm saying is, i'd rather have TMac hogging the ball away from Yao than Steve. purely because when TMac hogs the ball, there's higher chance of it going it.
It's not all about making the team better. The players are just as important as the team. I believe in showing loyalty to our players, instead of jumping on the bandwagon of whichever player we have a crush on at the moment. We could assemble a team of Bryant, O'Neal, Macgrady, Yao, and Duncan. That sure would make the Houston Rockets better, no? But they would not be the Houston Rockets anymore. We have to protect our players, and show just a little bit of loyalty to the people who bust their asses for us.
We traded for Francis, remember? Are they no longer the Rockets because they traded away Dickerson, Price, and Carr? Are they no longer the Rockets because they traded away Cassell and Horry and Thorpe? Are they no longer the Rockets because they traded away Olajuwon? That is rediculous. Players get traded, it is the team that remains. I, for one, cannot wait until Steve is out of here, I just hope it doesn't cost us Mobley in the process.
You're kidding, right? I don't care about the Steve Francis Rockets or the Yao Ming Rockets or even the Kelvin Cato Rockets. They are the Houston Rockets. Many of us are a fan of the team. And we want to see the team win; see the team become a championship team again. Francis is a good player and plays with tons of heart. I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with him staying another year if he was to improve. But he hasn't shown that he can. He hasn't shown he can take us there. And if we can make our team better, that should be priority one. Don't give him away for nothing. But we also can't sacrifice our chance to improve. Don't kid yourself...it should be pretty much all about making the team better. Do you really think 90% of the players in the league wouldn't bolt for better situations? Or just change teams period when the situation calls for it? Lots of the greatest players ever do...hell even Hakeem played in another jersey. Do you even remember that Francis forced a trade from the team that wanted to draft him? It's nice you want to remain loyal to a player...but very few of them would do the same for you. I wish them well when they do move on; but the team comes first.
I used to be a big steve francis fan in his first 2 years in the league. He was exciting, the west version of allen iverson less the offense. On his third year, he was injured but still made the all star. It just shows how popular steve is. The following year, rockets got yao ming. I was excited then. Im an asian and i have seen yao ming played in the asian games. He was dominant but raw. He was china's second best player then next to wang zhizhi. But even the likes of bill walton savors the upside of yao ming. I believe he was the first to recognize his talent and was the first to acknowledged him as a franchise player. So the thought of yao playing along side my favorite player was a treat and rockets games was televised more often in my country. There, i saw the real steve francis. He was still exciting, but the flaws started to come out. The dribbling, the stupid plays, the selfishness, the one on one plays, his personal relationship with cuttino wherein most of the times it seems its 2 on 5 on the court as steve and cat ignored their teammates, the lack of basketball IQ, cant finish the break, the lack of substance in his game, the criticism by the sportscasters as well as coaches and legends, i mean steve really screwed up. But he still remained popular as he made the all star for the second consecutive year. Then this year, a new coach, a new system, but still the same result. Although i have to admit he has tried his best to change his game for the benefit of the team. But most of the times, the old steve still dominated the team and it's so tiring to see. JVG has done a tremendous job on this team. Now, if he wants to continue the imporovement of the team, its just a phone call away, a trading steve francis away, a TMAC away from being the Lakers most serious competition next year.
I believe SF will be traded. I hope he brings a stud in return, otherwise ohmigawd. SF has many assets he brings, some negatives, but this guy is a load. So, be careful for what you wish. I, AND WE, will miss him when he's gone.
I am in the camp of wanting to Steve go. As soon as possible. Come on guys, what are we losing? One playoff exit in the first 5 years. I was sad when Hakeem left. I was sad when Warren Moon left (7 straight playoffs). But not really for Steve. I have been sick of his game and the Rockets "style" (or lack of) for the past 2 years. And enough with the guilt trips. It's ok to want to trade players that we think don't fit with the team.
