The road to 3,000 continued at Minute Maid Park, Texas as Craig Biggio came into Thursday night's contest only three hits away. In the third inning while facing Aaron Cook with a 2-2 count, Biggio lined a single into center field for career hit 2,998. Biggio would return to the plate in the fifth inning and would smack an Aaron Cook curve ball to Rockies third baseman Garrett Atkins, who then overthrew first baseman Todd Helton. After review by the official scorer, Biggio was credited with his 2,999th hit. As fate would have it, the guy who wore number seven would come up in the seventh inning with a date with history. After watching two Aaron Cook pitches out of the zone, Biggio was locked and ready on a 2-0 count. With Brad Ausmus on second, Biggio drilled Aaron Cook's offering to former Astros center fielder Willy Taveras for the historic hit and tying the game at 1-1. Biggio, going for his patented double, was gunned down at second by Taveras to end the inning.
