Ha I got a coworker that looks like that guy. I've kidded him before on that but didnt like the comparison I'ma very private person and I still think I could handle a celebrity lifestyle. There's many levels of celebrity. I wouldnt want a true A-listers lifestyle but I' could make a B and C-list lifestyle work. The only thing I'd hate is being and actor doing nude scenes lol. I don't want anyone to fail, but I find difficulty sympathizing for the front page celebs and their train wrecks of an existence. They want EXCESS of everything - to be rich, have everything, be loved and cared for, to be worshiped, get exceptions in life regular people can't...then complain about the excess attention and excess bad part. To me its 10-15% celebs getting most the tabloids while the other 85-90% who've ever done anything go about their lives enjoying the occasional limelight and just dealing with it. I don't think America's more celebrity obsessed than anywhere else. Its the same everywhere and some countries even more, just that America produces more entertainment content. I DO think that people (okay, mostly women ) get WAY TOO carried away in their interests in celebrities' lives. It actually hurts them personally when their favorite celebs do something they don't particularly like. A coworker one time was all huffing and puffing over Jennifer Lopez's decisions in her love life and was "So MAD at her" for stuff she did with Puff Daddy, etc. Um, news break: J-Lo might be a nice person but does she really care 2 sh-ts what you/we working our 9 to 5's think on those type of matters?
I don't care if people write crap about me. I'll just drive away in my lambo and laugh, knowing that I have enough money to buy you and your whole family.
This country isn't any more or less celebrity obsessed as any other country. England has tabloids that rival anything we got over here. Michael Jackson can't go to Europe without drawing insane crowds. And T-mac just recently mentioned the hordes of people that he attracted in China. People are people. And I don't think that beyond the superficial, people in other countries are that much different we are. We've all got hopes, and needs, and yearnings. As for filling a void, isn't that what most of us are doing on this message board.
At 18, 22, 26, I would have probably cratered. At a minimum, I would have been a stuck-up jerk who felt he was immortal and entitled to everything... all the while lying to myself and pretending I was the same average guy. Started gaining some wisdom in my 30's, but even that would have been touch and go. Now in my 40's, I could probably handle it for the most part, but with those kinds of opportunities, I'd probably lapse here and there. Thankfully, it's not a problem I'll have to confront.
