Oh and just to add, If you are worse than Kendrick Perkins at anything outside of being a dirty player, you don't even deserve to be in the NBA.

I think Yao merits consideration if he continues to play defense as well as he has these last couple of games for the remainder of the season. If that is the case, then he deserves to be on the second team but probably not the first team.

I agree completely. He needs to keep up with the defense and block more shots. He does have more BPG than Tim Duncan, but since Duncan has a reputation it puts him ahead of Yao.

You shouldn't have voted never then. Because clearly he could easily make a case next year or even 2 years from now. Offensive players could very well be great defensive players later in their career. Example would probably be LeBron James and Paul Pierce.

If JVG had a vote, I think he'd vote for Kendrick Perkins. I remember him being very complimentary of his defense.

all defensive team? is that some sort of award? then no, yao won't make it.

personlly, i think he'd be on the 2nd team.

    ppg - 31st
    rpg - 12th
    bpg - 10th
    2doubles - 10th
    efficiency - 12th

yao is doing well this year.

Are you sure that wasn't Mark Jackson? Mark Jackson did have Perkins as a Top 5 Center in the league, when we were playing the Warriors on ESPN.

I think JVG respects Yao too much, I don't know him personally nor do I know what he will do. However, If I had to make a prediction and he notices Yao's defense, He'll probably vote for Yao.

JVG respects Yao as a person and a competitor. I don't think he has much respect for Yao's pick and roll defense, though. ;)

True, but he respects his shot blocking and his ability to intimidate others. So, I don't know. I believe Yao probably has his vote, but one guy doesn't change it all.

Kevin Garnett, probably. Ben Walllace used to be really good at it.

yeah, ben wallace has lost some of his defensive prowess for quite some time now.

kg and td are the first two that popped up in my mind.

Duncan is not a very good pick n roll defender, he's a great overall and post defender. But he's not a good pick n roll defender. See WCF of the 2008 playoffs, watch what Kobe and Gasol did.

It's KG by a mile, there's really no one in my mind that is good at defending the P n R like KG.

Did you read my post. I'm hating on the media and like ESPN, not Yao.

Sorry, but Big Z is underrated on defense just like Yao. Perkins will not get in, Media doesn't hype him up enough.

It's either Yao or Duncan for the 2nd team. Duncan if they consider center, Yao if they don't consider Duncan center.

Are you trying to say Yao is worthy of all-defense you just don't think the media will recognize him for that?

Yao should not only be on All-Defensive team, he should be on All-TIME Defensive Team. Nobody alter shots like he does inside and affect the offense like he does inside. Tell me one single person in this league that can alter almost every drive to the basket?? So Yao is more than just a defensive player...he's a defensive presence!!

Dwight Howard and Tim Duncan come to mind, but is your vote All-NBA defensive 1st team or 2nd team? We are talking about current not all-time.

Yao playing 80 games and the Rockets being a top 4 seed will help things. Cuz it'll will look he carried the load without McGrady.

I wouldnt be suprised if they snuck in a Kendrick Perkins or Tyson Chandler just because. Yao's got the rebounding and block #'s over both of them though

dwight howard makes it impossible for him to make the 1st team, but he's got a good chance to make the 2nd team.
