Suns 1st, Mavs 2nd, Spurs 5th and we're 3rd We take down the Mavs in the second round Spurs take down the Suns in the second round We drop the Spurs in 4 in the WCF and we somnambulate over any Eastern foes in the Final My best case scenarios ...
Just think if the rumors about Carter for AK47 are true. We probably get home court advantage in a 7 game series against Utah. However we get to face this lineup: PG Williams SG Carter SF Harpring PF Boozer C Okur with guys like Fisher, Milsap, and Giricek off the bench. I don't know but I think I would much rather face the Lakers than that team. I would also much rather face the Lakers than this potential team. PG Iverson SG JR Smith SF Melo PF Nene C Camby with guys like Steve Blake, Reggie Evans, Najera off the bench. If the Rockets are healthy they should definitely want the Lakers over the Nuggs or Jazz. As for all this talk about rather facing the Spurs than the Jazz all I can say is GET REAL. The Spurs are on pace to win 57 games and people are acting like they are washed up and through. WTF? They also are notorious for being slow starters and regardless of what fans are saying Manu and Duncan are in their primes right now. As far as the Mavs and Suns go it would be very wise to face Suns as late as possible. I am not so sure why so many fans here fear the Mavs. I really believe the Mavs is a much easier series than the Suns.
I have it on good authority that if we have a better record than the Spurs, we will technically speaking....pass them. DD
We will rank #5 in the west conference and face Utah in the playoffs. We will get the home court advantage and beat Utah 4-2. Nuggets and Timberwolves will compete for #8, Mavs, Suns and Spurs are #1-3. LAL will be #6, and LAC will be #7, I still think LAC will get a better record than both Nuggets and Timbers. We have chance to beat any team and win series in the WC except Suns, we can beat even Mavs and Spurs. But it's a pity that JVG has not find the right way to beat Suns.
Wow, the Rockets are only 2 games now behind San Antonio, San Antonio is playing Phoenix today on back to backs, sounds like some kind of luck for us.
A lot of yall seem to think the Jazz will maintain the 4th seed and seem to covet the 5th slot. Ya right! With Boozer down and an impending trade expect Denver to take lead of that conference. Leaving the Jazz at 6th or 7nth. The playoff outlook will change. Perhaps drastically from 4-8...
3rd or 5th, doesn't matter, we have to beat suns and/or mavs if we want to be on the final court. can't tell now, would like to see what happens when Yao's back.
I totally agree. The Jazz are going down. Hell, they were going down before Boozer got hurt. They only went like 8-8 in January, and have a tendency to lose to crappy teams at the buzzer. No way they finish above us. Not a chance.
Ok 3 divisions: Top 2 Division leaders get #1 and #2 seed. If the 3rd Division leader has a worse record than a 2nd place team in 1 of the previous 2 divisions, then that team gets the #3 and the 3rd division team gets the #4. Division leader can't do worse than #4 seed, BUT if #5 seed has a better record than the #4 seed, then then #5 seed still gets home court.
Not exactly. The three division winners and the next best record team gets the top 4 seeds. But the those seeds are ordered by record. So it's entirely possible to have the top two seeds from the same division.
No matter what, I would like to have home court in the first round. All this stuff about who we want to play inthe 2nd round or WCF is great but we have to get out of the first round (which we havne't done in over 10 years)...Lets try to get home court (which this year is proving to be a great asset for the rockets) and we can worry aobut the matchup in the 2nd round once we accomplish that...Home court is big in the playffs so I do Not want to go on the road for a deciding game 7.....against anybody (jazz, spurs, nuggets, suns, mavs etc)...one step at a time.....
As I have already said, it's not in our interests to finish third; let the Spurs have it, they will get rewarded with the Suns in the second round. I would rather go through Jazz/Nuggets and then Dallas than I would Lakers/Jazz/Nuggets and then Phoenix.
It should also be added that even though the lowest seed a division winner can be is #4, the fact is they play on the road if their #5 seeded opponent has a better record. Translation: The lowest division winner can be as low as the #5 seed even though technically they are #4. Hope that was clear enough.
i dont really see the value in this speculation. Too many factors (injury, potential for a big run, trades, etc) effect the fates of all these teams to say for sure what will happen. Here's my stance on seeding though--it doesn't matter who we play, because if we wanna win it all we're gonna have to beat all the best teams eventually. Home court is nice, sure, but look at the dream's 2nd championship. we were what, the 6th seed? as long as mac and yao are healthy, we should hit our stride right as the playoffs roll around and be a force.
