Morey I believe mentioned how they were able to get so much for Rafer due to the pg situation in Orlando. If anything, Morey got back more for Rafer than he was suppose to.
Chill. Cook will take the option, of course, and be trade bait this summer or next February. Maybe he'll get in shape and spread the D ... as if.
Don't underestimate the determination of Cook. He'll run like the wind knowing he can shoot every time he touches the ball. He'll be line driving treys all season long. He'd probably set an NBA record for 3pt FGA if they give him 15-20 mpg.
This was not just a trade of Rafer for Lowry and Cook. This essentially was a trade of Rafer for Brooks. It had been established that you could not bench Rafer for Brooks, and I feel like the biggest factor in all of this was the coaching staff feeling that AB was ready to be handed the reins of starter. I absolutely love our point guard duo of Brooks and Lowry... I feel they are much more effective than Rafer and Brooks. Plus when they are on the floor together, they each bring something different to the table... which cannot be said of Rafer and Aaron. I really am surprised at all of the haters on the board here for Aaron Brooks. I saw flashes of superstardom this playoffs, and I really feel we have a special player in #0. And when he does make those young mistakes, we now have a player in Lowry who isn't very mistake prone to bring in for a little while. I absolutely loved the trade. (If you can't tell )
I really don't understand this type of question, though it comes up a lot on this board. Don't you think that EVERY GM in the leauge asks for more on EVERY trade. And I mean every GM, the bad ones, the rookies, hockey guys, the guys about to get fired, the ex jocks who don't know how to run a business; I mean all GM's, even Zeke, I'm sure. I figure the conversation goes like this.... Logo: Mitch, I am about to leave Memphis, do you want our best player? Put together 4 or 5 scrubs and I'll sell it before I go. Kuptchak: I don't know Jerry, after we start winning championships again our draft position will be lousy, can you throw in a couple of first rounds. Logo: Even I can't pull that off. Go for 4 scrubs. Kuptchak: Man you are killing me. I'll ask, but I'm embarassed to ask the doctor if he will accept Pao for nothing. Sure you can't throw in a few seconds? Logo: Tell Buss I said hello and I hope to see him soon.
Cook is a complete doofus. It's like carrying Moochie's contract again. Possibly rational in a stiff-with-contract kind of way, but embarassing. I can't even stand to see him on the court in garbage time.
I have fixed the sample on which you based this opinion. Rafer has shown a marked decline this year overall, production-wise.
A lot of Rockets fans act like jilted lovers when it comes to Rafer...refusing to acknowledge his successes. Rafer has played well for a team that may well make it to the finals this year. True to form, he has been uneven, but he has also been absolutely crucial at times. I wish him well and applaud his success. If anyone thinks the Rockets made out like bandits, I think they may be overvaluing their hand. The bottom line is the deal worked out well for the Rockets and the Magic. It seems both teams got what they wanted. Memphis believes they did too. Could the Rockets have gotten more? Maybe. Maybe not. You also have to remember they were up agianst the clock as well, with this being a late hour deadline deal.
It seems to Rafer's fan club, the definition of "well" is dumbed down to decidedly average. It's like they've been beaten down so badly by his unending litany of 3-11 nights that whenever he breeches 37% it 's cause for celebration.
i think DM shouldve gotten more for alston. DM nut huggers dont think morey can do any wrong... except maybe dorsey.
What do you think Rafer was worth? How much of an upgrade did you expect? The deal was already in our favor given the fact that Lowry is a better player and 10 years younger. Should they have given us Hedo?
Rafer was tearing it up in the first half of this season for houston, netting a mighty 11-5 on 37-34 in 33 minutes. A real prize for any GM.
I think we got fair value, considering Rafer had an Arguably really bad contract for what he was worth. We got lowry and a scrub that will expire the same year as Alston at a decent 3.5M (unless Cook is out of his mind and doesn´t pick his option for next year). Actually it will be a very good position this year untill the trade deadline as we will have about 8 million dollars in little expirings contracts, that can be combined with Brooks, Lowry, Scola, Landry or whatever player we want to get another star or solid role player. (expirings for next year other than the well known -Tmac- are Barry 2M, Dorsey 0.8M, Cook 3.5 and Hayes 2.1M)
LOL You do realize that Lowry is on a rookie scale contract right? You can't trade Alston for Lowry without taking on Cook's contract to make amounts equal. The Magic are not dumb. We are not the only team with a pointguard. Do you think they'd still do the deal if we ask for Dwight Howard as well? We already made out like bandits: 1) We got Kyle Lowry 2) We got rid of Rafer 3) The pick that was paid to Memphis came from the Magic What else do you freakin' want? Geez....
yup. well put. we know what we had with Rafer. Lowry is young and has potential (and can actually finish at the basket or dish out)
I was under the impression that most of us would do that rafer trade again every day of the week? He's had some nice games but he had some fantastic games for us as well. I liked him as decent pg but there's no question in my mind that we upgraded in lowry and substantially more in promoting Aaron.
It was to the point that we would have taken anything for Rafer to leave so we could promote Brooks. I also like how Morey turned Rafers contract into two with Lowry and Cook. Now if he could do that with T-mac we would have two 10+mil a year players and could get past the damn Lakers. My post count actually went down after Rafer left town. I had alot less to b**** about.
