If the Kings were only looking for Head plus cap fodder in return for the deal, we could send Head plus Deke (expiring contract), plus Sura, plus $3 million (to cover half of Sura's contract). We could then take back Potapenko ($3.6 million) for the trade exception as a "separate, simultaneous transaction", as additional incentive to the Kings. With the salaries we would send out combined with the 25% rule, we could give Wells a contract starting at up to $9 million per year, more than enough to get him to sign. Or we could also trade Juwan for Kenny Thomas, which the Kings might do, because KT has 5 years left on his deal, where Juwan only has 3. And we can also throw in a first round pick, too. The point is, the Rockets do have a little bit of flexibility to do this deal if they really want to win now and if they are sold on Bonzi being the missing piece.
That's hilarious. People have been pining for Spanoulis to get signed, then we sign him to part of the MLE and people are upset. A) Wells probably wouldn't come for the full MLE anyway. Either he still signs with Sacramento or he is a sign-and-trade candidate. B) If he would have been willing to settle for the MLE, we could still get him with the remaining TE because the money is rather equivalent to the full MLE with veteran raises. C) Why do you want Wells? As others have stated, he can't shoot a lick, tends to hog the ball, and at times has an attitude problem. He would give us a long wing with some experience, but that is about it. I swear if the Rox had kept Rudy Gay, people here would be complaining that we didn't trade up to get Brandon Roy.
Nah, the timing on Spanoulis was important. His Greek team was getting ready to extend his contract, which would have made EVER getting him over here next to impossible. The Rockets had to make a move on Spanoulis THAT WEEK or risk losing him for good. Also, as good as Wells is, I agree that he will not be a Rocket. Despite the fact that the Rockets only have ~$3.5M of the MLE left (with at least another ~$500k of that earmarked for JLIII), I really think that Kirk Snyder will be the Rockets starting SG next year. That is, unless McGrady is okay with moving back there.
Hasn't there been four or five other threads about this guy? First off, we can't afford him like everyone else has mentioned. Secondly, he had exactly ONE good playoff series in his entire career, he's been known as a locker room cancer (he and the Stro Show had their own little gig in Memphis), and his style doesn't fit what the Rockets need anyways: he's a bulldozer who strives more on handling the ball and driving than as a complimentary shooting guard and defender. Besides, he looks like a hairless ape with a pumpkin for a head. Bring back Michael Dickerson.
Assuming that Atlanta had a $7M TE, your proposed deal works from both Sacramento and Atlanta's perspective but not from Houston's. We'd only be sending out $1M in salary (Luther Head) and receiving $7M in salary. In order for the deal to be legal, Houston would have to send out and additional $4.15M in salary. I doubt that Atlanta would be willing to take on that kind of salary.
we have the trade exception although i know theres no way wells would accept that much money. nobody is going to pay this guy the money he wants we should have tmac call him up and tell bonzi how much he wants him to play for the rockets next year, kinda like how he did with stromile swift last offseason
Those are the teams havent used their MLE yet but most of them dont need a starting SG/SF Boston: Szczerbiak/Pierce Cleveland: Hughes/LBJ Golden State: Richardson/Dunleavy/Pietrus Indiana:Jackson/Daniels/Granger Memphis: Jones/Miller (they'd like to find a guy to take Jones' position but I dont think they would get Bonzi back) Miami: Wade/Posey(Heat's salary for next season is 63M already and they havent brought Payton/Morning back. They will try to avoid the luxury tax) Milwaukee: Redd/Simmons New Jersey: Carter/Jefferson New York: Portland: Unless they are trying to build a ganster Utah: Harping/Ak 47 (Do you think Sloan will like Bonzi Wells?) Seattle: Allen/Lewis Philadelphia: They are trying to save money and rebuild the franchise. Even the S&T is not a better option for him. Kings is trying to stay under the luxury tax(65.4M) and they have 60.4M on the payroll. It looks like he will get 5M or less for the next season.
