College coaches have trouble coaching in the pros. Rookies have a lot of trouble in the pros. There may be 12 players on USC that could get drafted in the NFL. Even less will be good enough to play significant minutes. Every player on an NFL team is like an allstar college player, but with more experience. I don't think USC could score on anything, but a fluke. My Question: How many points would a bad NFL team put on USC?
How successful was Pete Carroll as an NFL with elite professional athletes. I rest my case. There is no comparison between nfl and the college ranks. USC wouldn't score a point.
Of course teams change - but for most of these teams, the core personal stayed the same. If it was just about raw talent, you wouldn't have these kinds of wild one-year swings. Neither Oakland nor Tampa Bay substantively changed the core of their rosters from their Superbowl year to the next. Raw talent won't mature in one year from 6-5 to 13-0, as OU did from 1999 to 2000.
You know they used to play the college all stars versus the Super bowl champions. And sometimes the college all stars won. DD
Not only would USC get destroyed in the trenches, just imagine what NFL blitz packages and coverage schemes would do to Carson Palmer. I'm not saying he won't be able to learn how to read NFL defenses when he comes into the league, but that takes time. Throw him cold turkey against an NFL team and he will never know what hit him. Think concussion(s). Think multiple interceptions and a complete loss of confidence after the first two series.
There is no way USC could hang with an NFL team, even the Texas. We get fooled on tv because we cant determine the actual speed of an NFL team compared to a college teams. Thier lines are bigger, LBs quicker, CBs and safteys smarter and faster. Even though USC has top notch talent, every NFL team is comprised of the best of the best, and playing any college team USC looks damn good, but there is no way they can handle the speed and strength of even a bad team like the texas.
All stars are different than one team. You consolidating the best talent out of over a hundred teams versus one team with 2 or 3 all stars.
i was wondering that myself when i was at the game last week i don't see how the trojans couldn't put up at least a touchdown against a team like the texans last week.
To be honest, I think the Texans have some real talent... but they have wasted some key draft picks and their system is horrible. I knew from day one that Capers was a bad pick to lead the team off and he has done nothing but prove that from day one. Truthfully, with the players they have now they should be close to a playoff contender.... but their ridiculous 3-4 D and offensive schemes make it nearly impossible.
USC could score 3-7 points against most NFL teams. of course, that's about all they would need to beat the Texans.
Just NFL calibre? No. The question is are they big enough now (not in 3 or 4 years), early round, and ready to start. And then, how many are NFL calibre and ready for 2nd string pros, unless you plan on playing SC's starters the entire game against much larger opponents.
If Texas State can score 31 against A&M then USC can score 14 on an NFL defense. How many Bobcats do you think would start for the Aggies. Now how many Trojans do you think would start for the Texans.
