I wish it were that easy...

Francis didn't want to be in Canada to begin with and I doubt they would take him now...

VC is allways injured, settles for fade away after fade away, and doesnt play any D.

i think marshall is the best fit at pf we can find for next year. excluding the pipe dreams of getting the likes of kmart, sheed, ect..

15ppg, 9rpg, and over a block and steal per gme. not to forget his 40% from the 3pt line.

Homer test #1: Do you think Cat is better than Vince Carter?

I don't think that Vince will be a real detriment on D because anybody can play defense in the right system unless they either dont want to, are undersized or their joints are old. Carter is athletic enough to play D, he just hasnt had a decent coach yet to enforce it upon him and the rest of the team. As far as how the trade matches up I think its best to compare them talentwise...

Francis for Carter- slight advantage to Houston
    Mobley for Marshall- about equal
Taylor for Williams- slight edge to Raptors

    Steve Francis vs. Vince Carter
Francis is just not playing that well because of the system he is in. He is the type of player that thrives in a one-on-one offensive system, which we no longer have. Its really sad to have such a good basketball player on our team and to have him go to waste. Im sure that Carter is good enough to find his way in our system because he doesnt always seem to need to go one-on-one and dribble out the clock like Francis does. Carter is also an excellent scorer, something that our team really lacked this year.

    Cuttino Mobley vs. Donyell Marshall
Mobley is a pretty good role player because he can hit the open 3 with good regularity. Donyell Marshall is a really good PF that can give you double digits night in and night out.

    Marucie Taylor vs. Alvin Williams
Taylor is a decent player that can be a fairly reliable offensive option that can get your team through tough stretches of scoring. But, not much more. Alvin Williams is a decent point guard that is good at distributing the ball without turning it over much. Something that we were truely lacking with Francis at point.

just wondering, where did the "mobley would be an all star in east" argument come from? I always thought east is piled with good guards but lacked big men comparing to west? or is there a style thing in it? did I miss anything?

Mobley has always played significantly better against the East than against the West, therefore, I believe the belief that Mobley would be an All-Star out East refers to a certain level of play he would attain against Eastern competition - and not to whether or not he'd actually make the All-Star team.

alvin williams averages 9ppg and 4apg in 30mpg.

not quite what i had in mind when thinking of PG's who can replace steve. however, if we can get him as a back-up he would fit well.

    Math lesson:

    Vince Carter - 1/2 man, 1/2 season.

1/2 season x Vince Carter < Full season x Cuttino Mobley

Vince Carter - 12 Million per year.
Cuttino Mobley - 5 Million per year.

    5 million (CM) + 7 million (TE) = 12 million (VC)

Toronto can parley 7 million TE for sign and trade of a free agent (Dampier? Rasheed? Manu?). Or just save some money, and rebuild.

And remember, Toronto was our main competition to sign the Cat a few years ago. I know, different GM, but same owner.

It's so funny watching people try to make a case for Cat over Carter, the Olympian, All Star, Superstar, 25+ppg scorer, and one of the names that fills up an arena.

    Hilarious really.

I also think it's rather foolish to compare the two. How destroyed is Carter's body now? Can it be that bad (G.Hill).....or is it just homer talk? Really...I want to know...haven't kept up with him

If Carter were healthy more often, I'd say yes, sure. But in that case, the Raptors would win more and make the playoffs. They have other problems as well, but....

The trade would have to be 3- or 4-way. Steve never wanted to hit Berlitz and learn Canadian, so....

This is Marshall's numbers the last two years, his career reb avg is 7.3 rpg.

    03-04 TOR 62 62 38.9 .466 .391 .741 2.80 7.70 10.50 1.4 1.21 1.63 1.48 3.00 16.2
    03-04 -- 78 70 36.2 .459 .392 .736 2.60 7.10 9.60 1.5 1.13 1.55 1.46 3.00 14.7

MoT has never averaged higher than 6.5 RPG in his career plus his career avg is 5.0RPG. Marshall is clearly the better player, though with a better contract
