Amazing how quick we forget our last election. Even though racial tensions are down and the voters are more "apathetic", its clear that the nation is still is quite conservative. There will not be a black or woman president for some time. The nation isn't ready.

So where does the Hispanic population fall into this question? Considering Arizona is primarily Anglo and Hispanic, I guess we'll be sitting around watching the carnage on CNN.

bush won barely more than 50% of the the popular vote during war and gore won more the 50% of the popular vote previous to it.. how can you say quite conservative.. I'd say quite indepedent..

There's only one man to stop this assasination attempt: Jack Bauer

If Obama gets anywhere near the highest office and gets killed, you can bet that there will be mass rioting by poor black people in places like Boston, Detroit, LA, etc. There is racial tension and if poor people are given a reason to unleash their anger, they will.

Not in my lifetime! Hopefully I have a good 50-60 years left on this Earth and hopefully Clutchfans will be around that long. Make sure to save this post and make me eat it if America has a female or Black president prior to 2066.

you know its very very hard to tell but in my opinion you may be wrong. from i remember reading in the past voter turn out is very very low here then other countries. and maybe something like a black or woman canidate may get some much needed interest in the politics.

and i think this would be the perfect election to do so. bush may have handed the perfect storm on a silver platter. there is widespread dissent in the republican party that would seem to hurt them some in the next election. and i think the people that normally would not vote that would do so if the above happend they would be more inclined to vote for the black canidate or woman. instead of the person that wouldnt normally vote and that wanted to so they wouldnt get black or female president.

i think this next election may end up being one of the most interesting and important of my life time.

Hmmm How would Obama vs. Condoleeza trip in Jackfruit's simple mind?

I know most of you guys were pretty young but I guarantee you Colin Powell would have been the Republican nominee over George Bush had he chosen to run. I don't know why he didn't, I guess it had more to do with his family than anything political; but he was THE most trusted man in the nation at that time.

If not for Colin Powell's wife and his wanting to protect her, we wouldn't be wondering about who the first black President would be.

I think you guys are using rose-colored glasses to look at Powell. He had some issue stances that would work against him in any Republican primary and he would have had opponents in those primaries (as well as interest groups) that would have used the ugliest and basest tactics against him... it would have made Bush's push polls in SC look like child's play. No way he would have won the Republican nomination and if he had tried, his reputation would have been shot before he had a chance to kill it himself before the United Nations.

Same thing with Condi... first, she doesn't have close to the talent Powell has. Second, she'd never make it out of the first few primaries... a single black female is not going to win the Republican nomination for quite some time yet.

Rice is tarnished by being a bushie....

Obama is not. This country is not only ready for a black president, a black president is what this country needs to restore it's legitimacy in the worlds eyes.

A black president would be a true testament to the best of America at a time when we are probably at our lowest.

A black president symbolizes hope for so many minorities.

A black president symbolizes our diversity.

It's long overdue. I hope to see it happen.

    Obama 2008.

I don't see anything causing another "Civil War". Now maybe a race war, but a race war is a lot easier to come by; just imagine Beirut in several American cities. A true civil war part II would need states to secede from the union. Keep in mind that not all of the slave states seceded from the union.

It would have been interesting if Texas had followed Sam Houston's suggestion and declared itself indepent again, but did not join the Confederacy.

One so far over her head that she can't see the surface of the water. Just don't get the infatuation with Rice from some quarters. It's not that she isn't intelligent, it's just that she should have stayed in academia.

What if gay marriage were fully legalized across the country, gays were admitted to the military without a don't ask/don't tell policy, the partial birth abortion ban and parental notification provisions were repealed, and the federal government fully funded abortions? And we passed universal health care, which probably meant a higher tax burden? And Hillary were elected President, which means she would be fully responsible for enacting these provisions?
