Sura could easily be this year's JJ, but he doesn't need to have such a big impact. If he can just handle the ball, play decent defense, and not turn it over, he will be a fine addition. Whatever it is, CD/Les has really done a good job of putting together a solid bench. Something that we sorely lacked last season, JVG should have no excuse this season. 04-05 bench Deke/Taylor/Nachbar/Sura vs. 03-04 bench Taylor/M. Jackson/Spoon
Okay, I see. But that still wouldn't be a reason for us to pay someone around 5-6M over 3 years just to become someone who sits on the bench.
6 momths from now, Sura's name will be mentioned with a pair of 2nd round picks for KG. Another words, we will find out he doesn't fit and we will be trying to trade him. The Anti-JJ.
I don't agree with either of your points 1) I think Sura will be a good fit in this system 2) if he isn't a good fit, it will be Garnett AND Cassell for Sura, Mo T, plus "picks" (my favorite equalizer in these silly trades)
Jim Jackson is Mr. Consistency, which I'm not sure Sura can be. I’m thinking Sura will be more of a James Posey type of pickup than a Jim Jackson type of pickup. Posey was a nice energy type of player, brought good defense, was a one-man fast break, occasionally got hot from 3-point land. When Posey played well, the team was almost guaranteed to win. He was the x-factor. That is the type of impact I hope the Rockets can get from Bob Sura.
We are getting Sura in his prime both physically and mentally. He came out of college and played like a White Chocolate (aka JWill). Last year, he really turned the corner and matured as a basketball player... much like JJ has the last two years (with the Kings and now the ROX). It happens all the time. A player realizes his role and limitations and once he does... he flourishes. It has already been stated on here several times the amazing all around stats he put up last year during the last month of the season. He wasn't on a streak (a month is too long to be a streak)... he learned to play to his talents... which are creating off of the dribble, hitting the midrange jumper, and playing team ball. If Sura gets minutes 20 - 25 a game off of the bench... I think that he will be up for 6 man of the year. We have really added some vets the last two years that can do lots of things... bring the ball up (how many times last year did JJ fill that role?), hit the spotup jumper, and play tough defense. Maybe they are not high light material... but JJ, Ward and Sura are going to fill in the cracks of the Howard, TMac and Yao foundation. If we get anything out of Boki, Taylor and Lue... that is going to be a great 8 man rotation.
