Could someone please explain this obsession with Boki?

    Not wanting to appear rude.

As I was unaware that studying the draft was a particularly scholarly profession, when you seek to speak with the weight of truth conveyed by the words a study I would appreciate it if youd document your sources.

    Thank You.

If some fans root for Boki a little more because he is a minority in basketball, who cares...

Does anyone care if people root for Yao a little more because he is Chinese?

What about those prejudiced Argentineans who so blatantly pull for Ginobili?

Basketball is a TRULY International game now, and I think the added sub-rivalries between the players has made the game more interesting.

Celebrate the diversity instead of making an issue out of it.

personally though, race is not an issue for me. Hey I'm asian so what can i say. It's that underdogginess (not even a word) that makes me like him. His fearlessness. I mean i remember that time against the wolves last season where he got his shot blocked 3 times. he just kept attacking the rim. He doesn't try to do too much, and he's shown he can finish at the rim.

I rooted for him solely because he was a European player. Other European players in the NBA had proven to be smart, team players with good fundamental skills...almost the complete opposite of our entire team at the time we drafted him.

Sure, maybe the "whiteness" had a small influence, but the vast majority of the excitement surrounding Boki was because he was from Europe, and not one of these pampered high school/college kids that have a seemingly 10% success rate in the NBA.

I am not particularly a Boki fan, in fact, I have been really disappointed in his performance after hearing about his "stunning" shooting exhibition during try outs. I haven't seen much from him in games except the Malone incident. Race is a non-issue for me. If a green space alien could play some point guard, well, sign him up. (some think Cassell is a space alien!)

As long as Boki continues to come of the bench with a great work ethic and not demand a 10 mil a year contract, I'm fine with him taking up low cap space and being on the team. He is our resident mascot and head cheerleader. It is not unhealthy for teams to have this very key ingredient to winning a championship.

Sure there may be some fans who root for Boki because they are european or they want to root for the white guy. Just like there's the oppostie end of that with a guy not liking it when a white guy succeeds in a black mans game. I'm not sure its like that with me. I couldn't stand Matt Maloney. I hated Bryce "the shoe wiper" Drew. And Matt Bullard, I use to cringe when Rudy played him so much at the tail end of his careeer. And Boki never crossed my mind until he had that run-in with Malone, which was the most defining moment in his career so far. He's a Rocket with potential and fans are just waiting to see all that promise we've heard about since he was handpicked out of the draft. The guy is young, energetic, and he's a Houston Rocket under contract, so of course we're going to root for him. His time is running out though, and results are all that matter for him now, so we'll see how long this infatuation with him lasts. And the next guy I will be rooting for to succeed more than any other player will be Badiane. Thats the guy I'll be rooting for most next year. It's more of an underdog thing with me. I root for the underdogs.
