I have to disagree. You must have missed watching Vernon play. He would make McGrady's night a living hell.

    I agree Deckard,
they don't know Max. Not only tough D, he'll insult your family and call you a female organ part the entire time and threaten to beat you up after the game. I don't know if Tmac can handle that type of Smack Talk.

I have to tell this true storey. The had 1 ticket at work for the LA game I think. I'm sitting in the 2nd row across from the Lakers bench and Max is getting lit up like a christmas tree by Byron and I yell out Max, play some F'ing D, Scott is killing you. Mad Max yells back F U, shut up and watch the game.

Later that night we're at the same club (Oasis - Westpark/Gessner), Vernon walks up to me and says what's up and I say you got murdered tonight and he laughs and says stop yelling at me I got enough people yelling at me from Rudy T to the rest of the fans. I don't need brother yelling at me.

From that point we were cool and he bought drinks when I saw him out.

noone really stops t-mac. he takes himself out of the game by shooting horribly or passing the ball. the only person that stops t-mac is himself.

again i'm not saying that maxwell would not be able to guard t-mac but please don't make it sound as if you know what would happened if they played against each other.and yes for tinman and deckard.he is a stud anyone who has the guts to challenge jordan and defend him like that is a beast but again length is a big factor

hakeem would have stolen the ball and blocked Yao many times. Freaking Yao had issues scoring on Carlos Boozer and Okur. Have you forgotten what happened last year?

hmmm no hakeem by himself and for every game no way.listen hakeem is the best defensive center to have play the game along with russell but i'm not sure he would be able to lock down yao under 15 points everytime .a lot of games maybe but not every time.that's impossible

obvious this is a hypothetical question. you put Maxwell on Tmac with the early 90s rules (YES YOU CAN HANDCHECK) and you tell me what will happen.

    How about Jordan on Tmac?

yeah but t-mac himself said that he like handcheck.hmmmjordan against t-mac would be an interesting one cause jordan is 6'6 not 6'4.but you'll never know for sure.but i'm sure t-mac would be able to score some.great scorers cannot be stopped they can be contain.but definitely an interesting one

Hakeem would hold Yao to 15 if he wanted to. Yao would foul out trying to defend him, or get so many fouls that he'd spend a large part of the game sitting on the bench. And that doesn't even get into the defensive end, where he'd only be up against the record holder in blocked shots, a guy who is 8th all-time in steals. Not all-time as a center... all-time as in anyone who's ever played in the NBA from the time they kept records for the stat. Dream was a bit over 6'10", was called a 7 footer, and played like he was 8 feet tall.

He would destroy Yao in his prime. Ask Yao. I bet he would be the first to agree.

And Vernon against Tracy? The length wouldn't matter. The only thing that would matter would be if Max was on his game and up for the challenge.

    guards shut down yao

    hakeem was 6'10" maybe 6'11"

the only person that gave hakeem consistent problems was shawn kemp
and that was because of he lower center of gravity and his leaping ability
hakeem, if wanted to, could throw a goose egg on yao, just by preventing the entry pass

Michael Jordan won defensive player of the year.
if the scenario is a 1st round playoff game, game 7, early 90s rules, I'd take MJ over Tmac.

ok your opinion.i agree what you said about hakeem being great etc etc.but please every time?impossible.maybe hakeem would be the one in foul trouble.you mean yao is really that bad compare to ewing, robinson, etc?and vernon against t-mac,why wouldn't size matter because mad max talks trash?because he can handcheck?because he play physical?
i agree both mad max and hakeem can contain yao and t-mac and limit them to under 15 some games especially hakeem but ain't no way every time.t-mac can just rise over maxwell 6'4 against 6'8?why wouldn't size matter?

    hahaha yeah
me too this is a no brainer. but the topic was shutting down an opponent.mj was the best guard and maybe the best player(which i'm sure you wont agree :) )ever to play the game period.
