I don't think we'll see a push from the Rockets to get Llull over here before the end of his contract in Spain unless there is a serious risk of him signing an extension. If that looks likely, I think Morey will make sure he comes to Houston, by hook or by crook.
If Lowry signs an offer sheet from another team at the MLE, the Rockets won't match that, so I could see them bringing Lull in. If Lowry is still here or at least signs a 1 year tender, Lull won't be here till after his contract in Madrid is up
I don't think there is any pressing need to bring him over....unless Morey clears the cupboard in a 3-for-1 or 4-for-1 type blockbuster deal to land us an All-Star forward. Euro players don't take well to coming to the States just to rot at the end of the bench. And right now, he'd have to be something else to be better than 10th man in our rotation.
This is what I was thinking. I could see Brooks traded in a package to get a superstar this offseason. Lowry wants to start, Morey really values Lowry, so I could see it. Could be big changes coming and Llull could be a part of the plan.
Dude that's exactly what I was thinking! ... It would suck to see Brooks go, but in return for a star player, it would totally be worth it!
Seriously tho, who wants to sign a deal and make a move to the NBA to sit on the bench when you could possibly be making about the same kind of money while playing/starting in Europe? It makes sense to me. I've seen a few clips of his play on here, but what is his play style? I seen him shooting a lot of 3s from the vids. Is there a well known player he can be compared to?
I don't know what the deal is like now and in Spain, and with Llull specifically, but I do remember the first Argentine players in the NBA were getting paid a fraction of what they made in Europe to play 5 minutes a night or less, that's just how much playing in the NBA meant to them. Llull doesn't seem to be that eager to do such a thing though...
I actually wonder what Bryan Colangelo thinks of Lior Eliyahu. If ever there was a GM with an inclination towards prolific European league players, it's him. (I bet Colangelo likes Llull, but I would hope that Morey can keep him out of a sign-and-trade package unless absolutely necessary.)
From what I understand, Eliyahu's been pretty good playing in Europe. It's just that his game doesn't translate to the NBA quite as well as that of a guy like Llull.
