I'm sorry if it's already been mentioned, but I think something that is being lost in this conversation is the fact that when a team goes over the Luxury Tax Line, they pay double for every dollar past the limit.

So, as in the original scenario presented in this thread, if the Rockets cap figure is at 75 million after the trade(s), and assuming the luxury tax line is set at 66 million, then Les would be on the hook for an extra 18 million, not 9.

Not to mention that money goes into a pool that is then divided evenly among teams that are under the luxury tax line, so the real loss is even more than 18 million dollars.

I doubt Les would be willing to put the team in that situation unless he was getting a true, class A superstar talent.

exactly, i cant even count how many ridiculous trades i see based on "ohh this team want to shed salaries"

sixers trade iggy and dalembert for tmac??salary freedom? they're freaking 22nd in salaries in the nba out of 30 teams, what's the point if they'll just have to spend the same money on someone who's probably isnt even better than iguodala. propose a trade that you that you wouldnt even accept for the rockets, then it may be fair.

Does a 30 year old injury prone player coming off a career threatening foot injury qualify as a "big" player and not just in a literal sense?

The best possible situation for the Rockets is something akin to what happened when T-Mac left Orlando: Bosh tells Toronto he's gone next season no matter what and the Raptors get desperate to get something rather than nothing for him.

That said the most likely trade if one actually happens imo is T-Mac/Scola for Bosh/whoever. In my dreams it would be T-Mac/Ariza for Bosh/whoever.

It would also help if Toronto started to suck big time. Their recent 8-2 record isn't good for the Rockets trading plans.

    Brooks $2,016,692.00
    Iggy $12,345,250.00
    Battier $7,429,500.00
    Bosh $17,149,243.00
    Yao $17,686,100.00

    you means those players?
    no way.
they are not in "big 3" lv expect yao

Dream trade, however, the Raptors will demand either Brooks or Landry in that deal, maybe even both...

THis is too good, and it is almost impossible.

Bosh - if raptors think that they can't get him back, then they would want someone young and talented to build their future around their star.

We are betting on this as well, because Bosh may still jumped ship or test out the FA market. Which we could end up paying alot to sign him back. one thing for sure, he will become a all-star as long as he is in rockets uniform. Sneakers contract and endorsement? i have good feeling that he would stay.

we may be giving up scola and brooks + ariza - which is ok.
With both Yao and Bosh in the center, we need to surround them with passer and sharp shooter, which battier would come in very handy.

Iggle - i don't know if we can get him as Philly may not just trade him for Tmac without any young stars and taken back bad contracts.

3 teams trade is impossible as we are raping everyone.

    My trade: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yjkskex

    I don't think that's a completely one-sided trade. ;)

    Okay, here's mine:

Raptors get Scola, Ariza and Hayes.
Sixers get McGrady, Dorsey and Jermaine Taylor.
    Rockets get Bosh, Iguodala, Dalembert.

    This year:
    Brooks/Lowry
    Iguodala
    Battier/Budinger
    Bosh/Landry/Cook
    Dalembert/Anderson/Yao

    Next year:
    Brooks/Lowry
    Iguodala
    Battier/Budinger
    Bosh/Landry
Yao/Anderson (and trade Dalembert's expiring contract for something)

    What about:

Iguodala, Bosh, and Jack to Houston
Landry, Dalembert, and Holiday to Toronto
Mcgrady, Lowry, and Budinger to Philadelphia?

Actually I mentioned that in the Original Post. I made the same point you are re-stating now. I just don't see any way Less would pay an extra 7 or 8 million a year which is why I said that the Rockets would likely have to move Battier in order to get close to the threshold.

If you had been reading the many posts in this forum you would know that the idea of trading TMac to Philly for Iggy and cap space started in the Philly news not on this board. As far as I'm concerned once it is reported on in a news paper it certainly becomes a fair topic for discussion. And don't act like there is no precedence for trading good players in order to achieve cap relief. I will not go into the reasons why Philly might do this since there are already so many explanations posted in multiple threads.
