Edit from my last post: That was 3 days ago, almost 4. That's old news. "Von" I believe tweeted in the last day or so that he dont think the Rockets want him. We'll see but I wont count on it.
There is absolutely 0% chance that Toronto trades Bosh to us for Scola + Ariza or Battier. And on top of that, they would be forced to take Dalembert's contract as well? Why would they do that? Some of the ideas floating around on this board are downright ludicrous. Listen, we're not getting Bosh or Iguodala without giving up Landry, Brooks, or Lowry. Speculating is fun. We all have our dream trades when we're lying in bed. But let's be real. Threads like these only lead to even crazier speculation and duplicate threads/bogus rumors.
I forgot to add the logic to why the teams would do this trade. If we were to take Bosh, the Raps would want a PF in return. Of the two, Landry is younger, an offensive threat closest to Bosh's level, has better contract, and a higher ceiling. But in all fairness, that would not be enough and we would have to give up some more young talent. They would probably like to dump one of their long term contracts, probably calderon or hedo and want brooks as well. I think that the brooks/lowry combo is a perfect complement of each other and if you break that up, neither would be as effective. So we do not want to split that up nor do we want to take back hedo or calderon as neither would be useful to our future plans. Therefore, the only logical piece available would be ariza. He is young, showed some potential in his short stint with the rockets, and is signed to a very reasonable contract. Besides, I believe that our "window" is around 3 yrs. Shane would still be servicible for that time. For the proposed team, I believe that he will be a better fit than Ariza. Andersen would be added as another sweetener and Cook to match salary. As for the Philly trade, I'm not too sure of their current finanacial situation but I do know that their team is going nowhere with their current lineup. And with Brand's contract, it is very unlikely that they will be able to sign or trade for any true #1 option. Therefore, they can wipe 23 mil off the books with McGrady's contract and at the same time, clear our roster space for their youngins to develop. Spreights, Brand, T Young, N Young, L Williams + high lottery pick + McGrady's 23mil off the books can offer the team a great way to return to competetiveness as early as next season. As for our 1st rounder, it would be pretty low anyways, and with being over the tax and all, it might be better to just give it up to entice the sixers to trade iggy. Like I've stated before, I'm not sure of the exact consequences of putting such a team together will be dolalr wise, but it is fact in the NBA that the true contenders all have a high payroll and Morey/Les have stated that they would be willing to do the same if they can put together a team that they believe can challenge for a title. I thought these trades would be ideal because they would not only push us over the top, but more importantly it would do so without us losing our 'identity' for which us Rockets have endeared all their fans to. Sorry for the long post.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yfzncp8 Landry + Ariza + Cook for Bosh (+ filler) & McGrady + AB + DA for CP3 + Peja (+ filler Diogu) Final team :: Yao / Chuck Bosh / Scola / Diogu Battier / Taylor Peja / Budinger CP3 / Lowry
If i could rep, i would rep this 500000 times... Teams don't decide to trade just to improve the Rockets.
crash, this is probably the most attractive yet realistic deal I've seen so far. I still doubt that Toronto would trade Bosh PLUS taking Dalembert's contract for just Scola and Ariza. They might want Landry and Brooks instead. Would you still do it? I would. I'd even throw in a 1st round pick if they insisted. Lowry/Banks Igoudala/Budinger Battier/Ariza/Taylor Bosh/Scola/Cook Yao/Andersen/Hayes This team would be both good and deep.
My bad, I just trying to clarify whether he was working out with the Rockets or not. I wonder if Morey has checked out McCants in recent weeks.
The only way we can get both Bosh & Iguodala would be to seriously upset the current chemistry of this team. However, if DM wants to put the pieces together that can win for several years, blowing up the current team might be what it takes. We're currently in the enviable position of having a huge expiring contract that we don't have to trade & also being loaded with good young talent. Combine that with the teams that are desperate to trim salary & the teams afraid they might lose their star players for nothing & you have the makings of steal waiting to happen. So without further ado, I'll throw out a deal that'll make you roll your eyes in disgust, or cause you to drool uncontrollably. Or, at least that's what I think. :grin: Houston sends out McGrady, Battier, Cook, Landry, Andersen, & Buddinger. Houston receives Bosh, Igoudala, Delonte West, & Dalembert. Toronto sends out Bosh. Toronto receives Landry, Buddinger, Anderson Varejao, & Daniel Gibson. Cleveland sends out Ilgauskas, Varejao, West, & Gibson. Cleveland receives Battier, Andersen, & Brand. Philadelphia sends out Brand, Igoudala, & Dalembert. Philadelphia receives McGrady, Ilgauskas, & Cook. Toronto, afraid of losing Bosh for nothing, makes this trade & aquires a very good group of young talent to go with their current nucleous of talent. Landry is well on his way to becoming an All-Star & Buddinger has shown a lot of early talent. Varejao has the versatility of playing both the 4/5 positions & brings a lot of energy to the game. Gibson is a very good shooting PG/SG. Cleveland is the wild card in this trade, but I believe I read an article that indicated they may be interested in trading for Brand. They're also in a position where they may have to make some moves to show Lebron that they are serious about putting the talent around him to take the team to a Championship. With this trade, they get one of the best defensive players in Battier, a younger, more athletic backup center, & a PF that brings a much stronger offensive game than Varejao, while still giving the same rebounding & blocked shot numbers. Both West & Gibson are backups, but play major roles in the rotation. Philadelphia takes back $38+ million in expiring contracts while removing their two biggest contracts & only having to give up Igoudala. This will allow them to be major players in free agency this year. Houston gives up a lot of talent, but acquires two elite talents. With the healthy return of Yao next year, this team should dominate for several years. The problem is, that puts us in the $79.4 million salary cap range. Would Alexander be willing to take on that much salary for one year & a serious shot at a Championship? Yao ($17.7 million), Bosh ($17.2 million), West ($4.7 million), & Dalembert's ($12.2 million) contracts expire after next year. That'll give the team a lot of options. C: Yao/Dalembert/Hayes PF: Bosh/Scola/Hayes SF: Igoudala/Ariza/Free Agent SG: Ariza/West/Taylor PG: AB/Lowry Any way, it's just a thought.
That's true. Lowry is good enough to play starter minutes, IMO. Banks would be serviceable. We would need to get another backup PG. Conroy? But all the other positions would be stacked. A 8-man rotation would have Yao, Bosh, Battier, Igoudala, Lowry starting Scola, Ariza, Budinger, Banks off the bench Hayes, Andersen spot minutes
I thought about the Iggy+Bosh trade yesterday, it would look nice, but Yao won't be a top 15 player IMO anymore. I also do remember that after Boston won the championship, Morey said something along the lines of:"I was looking to see if it was possible to buy a championship, I guess it is."
Championship caliber teams doesn't mean strength at every position. If anything, a nice majority of recent championship teams feature some mediocre to crappy PG play.
Sorry but Arenas? Iggy, ok but NO to Arenas!!! Do you understand that having Arenas would put our team into an hole forever? Arenas is a decent player, all star caliber player with an superstar ego and superstar contract. We don't need him on our team nor his bang bang shenanigan. Arenas's contract alone is just stupid. The Wizards are stupid thinking that Arenas is a superstar in the first place. 2nd, he is very injured prone and he had a few knee surgeries and they still went out and gave him that max contract. That contract is almost as bad as the Magic giving Lewis a max. Not even Bosh is worth the max. Players that deserve the max contract are guys like Kobe, Wade, Lebron... The elite above the elite players. Nowadays anyone who average above 20 points per game are considered superstars to most teams. Anyway, even if we have Yao, Iggy, and Bosh, none of them are superstars. They would be damn good though. But the question is, just because Yao is predicted to come back next season, does not mean he is automatically considered part of that big three. I mean, would Yao even be nearly as effective as he once was? Yao isn't near a superstar level even when he is in his prime, he is considered an all star player but because he was 7'5, number 1 draft pick, one of the best centers in the league, people think he is a superstar. The thing is today in the league, the big men aren't as good as they used to be. Yao is one of the best centers today is because most of the centers in the NBA today sucks. But if we would put him back into the early 90s, he would be considered an average center or maybe a good back up center. Anyway, is Yao even going to be nearly as good when he comes back? I think he would put up around 13-16 points, 6-8 rebounds, 1.2-2 blks, along with 3-5 turnovers per game. He's getting old, dealt with many serious injuries, injury prone, very rusted( out for entire season), have to get used to playing basketball again, having to get used to the fast pace of the NBA again... Iggy is short of an all star but a good player. But he is a big improvement of Ariza but his contract doesn't help much. Bosh is the only bright side of this deal. Bosh would help turn this team around along with all the weapons on this team. I think the big 3 isn't what this team is. Iggy isn't an all star just yet, Yao wouldn't be himself but more of a role player, so only Bosh would fit that category. It would be more of Bosh as the main focal point, Brooks and Iggy as Bosh's two big guns, Landry as his partner in crime, and Yao as his big tree to fall on.
I AGREE!!! Finally someone see the same thing as me. Why is everyone keep thinking Von's still a Rockets. Everyone keep on saying "oh the Rockets going to get Bosh and then Von Wafer is going to come off the bench" etc... Where is Von coming from? The Rockets didn't sign him and moved on. They are not going to keep waiting for him. He's not that special. If he was, a team would of picked him up already like the Cavs who would sign just about anyone. Von Wafer was the past. He played one season with the Rockets. Just ONE DECENT SEASON and everyone is treating him like a star. Everyone is saying that he can put the ball in the hole and that he's a great scorer. Well he have some decent games but on certain games he was just horrible. He had one decent run with the Rockets. But then he signed with Greece and sucked so they waived him. An international team waived an NBA player. What does that means? Its not a good sign when they waived an Nba player in Von and treated Josh Childress like a superstar. Sure he had one decent year with the Rockets. It does not mean that he would come back and picked up where he left off. That one year might be a fluke. I doubt that he can come back and just picked off where he left off.
I think the Raptors would bemore interested in a Bosh + Calderon + Banks for Landry/Scola, Brooks + McGrady deal. They want to unload the Calderon contract...
