I dont see this happening. The Wolves would be better off rebuilding around KG adding in role players than totally ripping up the team. And why would Dallas do this? They actually have a nice core and just need to tinker a bit with the role players. It really makes no sense for either team.

What everyone said about Sam Smith is right...he just makes up trades and passes them off as legit newspaper articles. Hell anyone from RealGM could write those things!

Would be tremendous for Dallas. Trading a superstar who doesn't play D for one who does? That would be an impressive lineup that could D up, with a legitimate bench:

    Dampier
    KG/KVH
    Howard/Spree
    Finley/Daniels
    Cassell/Hudson

"One possibility is a Garnett, Cassell and Sprewell deal while also making the Mavs take Troy Hudson and his long contract for Nowitzki, Terry, promising rookie Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse and perhaps a throw-in or two like rookie Pavel Podkolzin and a No. 1 draft pick? "

Great Deal for Dallas, and, if KG were to force the Wolves' hand, I could see a similar deal going down. I mean, if you're going to trade KG, you can't do much better than the second runner-up in MVP balloting right( )?

    Wolves

    Olowokandi/#1 Pick?
    Dirk/Griffin
    Wally/Hassel
    Stack/Hoiberg
    Terry/Harris

EDIT: One thing though, would KG really want all those malcontents joining him in Dallas?

I like KG too much to see him play for a Dallas team.

I disagree, maybe not PRwise, but basketballwise I think it could help both teams. Chemistry on both teams is a problem with Dirk going after Terry and Damp.

So I like said Dirk + Daniels or Harris for KG could make a lot of sense.

Minn gets younger, both in their superstar (Dirk is not only 2 years younger, but b/c his game is less based on athleticsm and more on pure shooting I think he will not tail off as fast late in his career) and a potential solid young PG. They can start selling their vets for young players or picks/expir contracts, or not resigning them, to work towards cap flexibility(e.g., Wally, THud, Hoiberg, Cassell, Kandi, EJ, Spree), and can work on surrounding Dirk with defense and role players. Trying to rebuild now and blow up the team (plus consider KG's contract), by the time those pieces are there KG will be 32+ and when that athleticism starts going he will be so much less of a special player.

Dallas gets the more impactfull all around player, and guy who not only drammatically improves the defense but a better passer to draw out the best of guys like Terry, Finley, Stack, Howard and Damp. I think it very much improves Dallas chances the next few years to go all the way b/c of chemistry and the fit of KG around lots of other offensively gifted players. The years left in Finley/Stack/Damp/Terry being anywhere near the peak will proceed nicely with KG until they rebuild in like 4 years.

I doubt it will happen, but I just do think at the stage of both franchices and given chemistry issues I think it makes a lot of sense.

Like others mentioned in this thread ...

I thought this might be interesting when I saw the title. Then I saw the text. I thought, "no author credited, hmm, this isn't Sam Smith is it?" Then I saw the hyperlink and I didn't even need to click it to know it was more of his drivel.

No merit to entertaining anything he writes regarding his dreamcasting, of which KG is a particular fascination for him. People on the board could do a far better job at it than him.

You know who should trade for Dirk? Cleveland. Why/How?

Sign and trade Ilgauskas (to about 11 mil per) along with Drew Gooden for Dirk.

    Why?

    1. If Dallas is really serious about trading Dirk, they should trade him for a big man. They're pretty much set on the perimeter with daniels, howard, finley, harris and stack. Putting Z at center and dampier at the 4 would be prosperous. How? Ilgauskas is a pretty good center in his own right (17/9/2 blocks a game this past season) and if he can duplicate those same stats, they'll have a pretty good inside/outside game. Playing Dampier at the 4 would give them size and a better defender (when comparing with Dirk) at the 4 spot. Maybe this could even give Dampier some confidance :D . And you would have Gooden coming off the bench or even starting at the 4...whichever the little monkey general wishes to do.

Why not find a better offer? Well I would imagine that they wouldn't even try to trade him to a West team. For one, if you look at the way the league is right now, it's either you're contending or your team really sucks. Can't exactly trade him to a contending team in your same conference and bad teams don't have exactly the talent that could entice Dallas. You not only have the legit center you've been after but you also become a lot deeper.

    2. Cleveland needs a scorer. Period. James wants Redd or anyone that can score in the worst way possible. This would benefit both James and Dirk. James finally has another player that can take some of the load off and Dirk can go back to being a sidekick. Would this basically gut Cleveland? Not very. They lose arguably the 3rd best center in the East but they gain a PF that can score...and we all saw how Kenyon Martin did when he was in the East. And I doubt that we'll see a dramatic dip in either players' scoring production.
