Anybody that thinks bruce lee wouldn't kill, absolutely destroy any mma fighter is delusional.

Bruce Lee was the fastest, most deadliest fighter the world has ever seen.

This is almost like asking if Wilt Chamberlin would be able to compete in the new NBA, or if Gail Sayers would still be effective in the NFL.

With respect to the MMA, Bruce Lee would wipe the floor with anybody in the mma. I'm sorry.

he had a fast punch, but your confusing what you saw in kung fu movies with reality. Bruce lee's master, IP man, was a person who was actually a true fighter who went from dojo to dojo challenging people so he's possible i guess.

Go ask Charles Bronson about that.

He had a fast everything, by the way.

I could say that you are confusing mma with a real sport. :) But I won't.

Probably not, due to grappling. But if he lived during this time he probably would've took notice and worked a lot on that as well. Combine his striking ability with modern techniques, anything can happen.

I take it that most of you have never read Bruce's book, Tao of Jeet Kune Do. In it, it had several pages dedicated to grappling(wrestling and judo). Bruce was well aware of the need to grapple. He just never put it into his movies because its boring to watch.

Yep, I've got few books about Bruce and JKD.
Grappling and trapping are an essential part of JKD, most of the stuff in the movies isn't what he taught. These highly acrobatic kicks etc. are not what you learn in JKD, they were just in the movies for commercial reasons.
Guys here should actually learn what JKD and Bruce's fighting philosophy were before writing stuff that is untrue.

I think like bas said, if you put the bruce lee without any mma training in the octagon, he will probably have trouble winning, but if you give him sometime to get used to the format and training, he has a very good chance of becoming a dominant champ.

Jackie Chan is an martial arts acrobat.

Bruce Lee is a martial arts fighter.

You are an idiot if you cannot tell the difference.

I think Bruce Lee could've been a force in MMA, if not as a competitor at least an amazing trainer. He was truly a philosopher of MMA. He even said that those who trained in boxing and wrestling will beat a traditional martial arts experts, and the fact that he was mixing so many discipline early tells me he can continue to re-invent styles and techniques to stay ahead of the pack. That said, having not seen him in real fights against to fighters makes you wonder how he would really do in this sport.

For example, Charles Oliveira looked amazing in his first few bouts in the UFC, but his last couple of losses makes you realize the guy still have a long way to go before he becomes a champion. The same is true for Bruce Lee, he's an amazing fighter but if you start matching him against top athletes that train in MMA year round, you don't know how he'll respond. I personally think he'll have success as fighter, but can't say for sure.

Apples and oranges personally. I think it's more like can a player who dominates rugby be successful in the NFL.

A bit of a tangent, but have you heard the real story behind the kumite? It's amusing.

If all the world was paper
And all the sea was ink
If all the trees were bread and cheese
What would we have to drink?

I actually did read Tao of JKD, or at least skimmed through it quite a few times as a kid.

While he valued grappling, I don't know if he could deal with the level seen today which is why I mentioned 'modern techniques.' But I'm far from an expert so I'll leave it to those of you who have a better take on it.
