Aelliott, good point, and I'd LOVE to get Swift, but can you really see West doing a deal like that with us? We're in the same division, heck, with them a game behind us. (I know you're talking about a hypothetical deal next summer) I just don't think West will do it. If he were raping us, sure.
Well, West doesnt hold the cards. Swift does since he is unrestricted. The choice for West is this. Lose Swift for NOTHING. OR get a 1st round pick and send Swift to a division rival. As a GM you never want to help out the competition, BUT you help YOURSELF first before you do anything. If a 1st round pick fell into his lap for doing nothing I think he would take it. Of course all of that is moot unless we move Mo to NJ for a trade exception.
Forgive if this was mentioned, but isn't Stromile Swift untradeable? He was given that one-year offer when he was a restricted FA; so isn't he off-limits until the summer and he hits unrestricted FA status? Just asking. I'd love to get Stromile; backup center and power forward whose favorite team when he was growing up was the Rockets. More important, I'd love to trade out one of our redundant power forwards.
man.. i cant believe this thread is still around.. here is some inside info for ya the Rox will make another trade in the future! you heard it from me first
Maybe he is just trying to give us some false hope and comfort.......alas, if a Rocket fan has not any dreams then he has nothing...
Because I haven't heard anything about it. The info is way too vague ... how do I ask someone "could one of our four power forwards be going to New Jersey if something can be worked out?" suddenimpact really didn't give much in the way of details - such as who, for whom, how this info is known and what timeframe. Everyone knows that New Jersey is looking for a power forward since the Vince Carter deal, but this info has an 'in' ("could be headed to New Jersey") and an 'out' ("if something can be worked out"). suddenimpact has posted one time in the 15 months before this thread... I doubt he would make it up, but it's also possible he's laughing at people for stirring up a pot. I didn't lock the thread because you know there are a handful of posters waiting to jump on those who questioned the info, but at the same time suddenimpact hasn't given us much to go on to be honest. He's been logging in regularly to view the thread, but no further info. Again, I have no idea. I haven't heard anything about it, but given NJ's situation and our desire to dump PF's, it's certainly a possibility ... ... that is, if something can be worked out.
This just in: Toronto is looking at possibly moving Jalen Rose, .........if something can be worked out.
2 deals 3 way - part 1 Houston sends MO to NJ Toronto sends Jalen to Houston NJ sends TE to Toronto (10 mil) part 2 Houston sends Deke (or Spoon, or Howard) to Toronto Toronto sends Donyell to NJ NJ sends TE to Houston (5 mil) Houston swaps Mo for Jalen, exits another contract Toronto exits Jalen, gets something from Houston NJ gets two different kinds of power forwards. NJ can also afford to send picks to Houston and Toronto. We get out of Howard or Spoon to make room under the lux tax for for an offseason MCE run at a forward, we swap bad fit Mo for bad guy Jalen to play the 2 or 3 at wing with Tmac, we get a pick. Toronto gets a serviceable guy locked up to replace Donyell's expiring deal, a pick, and an exit from Jalen Rose and save $$. NJ gets a good rebounder in Donyell and a scorer in Mo.
You're correct that Swift can't be traded this season, but the whole premise here is for the Rockets to acquire him via a S&T next offseason after he becomes an unrestricted FA.
I agree with Deuce on this one. If Swift tells Memphis that he's willing to sign with Houston for the full MCE, then West is in a tough spot (assuming that he believes Swift is serious). Do you lose him for nothing or do you take the first round pick and allow Swift to make a little more money?
