That could be a steal. Motay is overpaid but one thing he does better that anyone I know in the NBA is take "charges". He just knows how to slide his foot and ultimately sacrifice his wide body for the good of his team and a turnover for our opponents. It will be nice if Juwan could steal that move from him to add to his repetoire.
This is the article posted here a few weeks back Nets have big need for big man in middle Published in the Asbury Park Press 12/19/04 NETS NOTES TORONTO -- The Nets' list of big men now consists of Jason Collins, Brian Scalabrine, little-used Jabari Smith and rookie Nenad Krstic. "We still have work to do," Nets president Rod Thorn said. But it won't be easy. Forwards and centers who can make an impact are hard to find and sign at this stage of the season. The Nets would love to acquire free agent Karl Malone, but he does not have any interest in the Nets -- even with Vince Carter -- according to a league source. "Yeah, you can bring in somebody who's seven-foot," Richard Jefferson said. "But is he going to be able to play worth a damn?" But the Nets do have two trade exceptions -- one worth $9.8 million and another worth $4.9 million -- if they can find a partner to trade with. A trade exception allows a team to acquire another player or players without having to match salaries. "We are researching every possibility," Nets GM Ed Stefanski said. "There's nothing immediate out there for us, but we're looking and hunting." There are veterans the Nets could have an interest in, specifically Houston's Maurice Taylor, Golden State's Dale Davis and Toronto's Donyell Marshall. Veteran centers Jelani McCoy and Jerome Moiso have also been released recently. But it is believed Moiso was originally offered by Toronto in the Vince Carter deal and the Nets turned it down. Looking younger, Bulls big men Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry and Cleveland's DeSagana Diop have also been the subject of trade rumors all season. Washington center Kwame Brown, the No. 1 pick in the 2001 draft who has not lived up to expectations, has fallen out of favor with coach Eddie Jordan. But Brown is a restricted free agent after the season and the Nets interest in him isn't that great. "It's legitimate," Nets coach Lawrence Frank said of the team's need for another big man. "We're probably going to have to continue to look at big people, but I'll leave that up to Ed and Rod." Link The only thing I can think of is now that the Nets acquired Vince Carter, Eric Williams becomes expendable, and the Rockets - if Bob Suras knee is still a major troublesome concern to them - may be interested in trading Mo Taylor for Eric Williams. That, or the Rockets may have interest in the Nets trade exceptions.
We're talking about perhaps having NJ take Mo and his lousy contract off our hands AND we are then hoping we get a solid backup PF???? Hey, lop Mo off and run as fast as you can! Padgett and Spoon can handle the backup PF minutes. Or we can just sign an NBDLer. If we can move Mo's contract, I am doing it and running away......snickering!
Uh, Eric Williams was part of the Toronto trade. In five games since being acquired from the New Jersey Nets, Williams has averaged 8.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 22.8 minutes per contest with the Raptors.
According to RealGM, we could just trade them Mo Taylor and Weatherspoon, without taking anything in return. Not sure if that is a bug, though .
If true, it's got to be some three team trade. Maybe we get PJ Brown afterall without having to give away a pick, or maybe it's part of deal where NJ gets either Marshall form Toronto or a big man (Rahim or Randolph) from Portland. Who knows. But I can't see NJ taking on Taylor with his contract for some reason. But that's just me.
I would call up NJ, and let them know that they could have any one of our three overpaid PFs for their trade exception, and that we would even throw in a 2nd round pick for them to take one. I probably wouldn't give up a 1st, however, like we had to do to dump Rice to Utah. But probably every team in the league is calling NJ trying to dump their bad contracts. I bet NJ holds out for Uncle Cliffy from GS or Donyell Marshall, which would be better contracts to absorb.

Enough with the Kidd talks. He won't be traded for anybody but a superstar and we don't have a superstar to offer them. Plus, he's over 30 with bad knees and a huge contract. No thanks. If you want a Kidd type player, look no farther than Bobby Sura. He's certainly not half the playmaker J-Kidd is but he has the same strengths as Kidd and I believe he is a poor man's version of the guy. Combine that with his strong play, i'm fine with seeing him run the show.
I see your point and i'm glad you made it because I need to clarify. Jason Kidd is still Jason Kidd. Still the best playmaker in the league, teams know what they're getting when they have a healthy J-Kidd. He's playing now and seems healthy but the reason I made the "bad knees" comment is i've read it could be one of those injuries that you never seem to recover from---kind of like turf toe. Now that's just what I heard, could be wrong. If i'm wrong, there's definately teams that will trade for Kidd. Kidd isn't pulling a Vince Carter. He may want out but he's certainly not crying the way VC did and making everyone in the organization hate him. Thorn would be insane to deal him for the garbage NJ gave Toronto for VC.
JVG told me that Mo is going to Phoenix for Amare + cash; CD informed me that Juan + Spoon for Tim Duncan. Both deal are close to be done.
