It's not even about "knowledge," it's just about b****ing. You see, that's the REAL sport of choice in Houston. Texanskan didn't offer one single alternative suggestion as head coach. All he thinks is, "WHAT WILL THE NEIGHBORS SAY!!" What do you expect them to say when UH alumni like yourself are trashing the program left and right before anyone's even been hired, let alone given the chance to succeed or fail? Why would it even MATTER what they say, since it's a virtual certainty that they don't have a clue what they're talking about anyway? Who did you expect them to hire, Jimmy Johnson? Whoever steps in at UH is going to have to prove themselves, so why start the ****-talking already? Oh yeah, because b****ing is what UH fans do instead of supporting the school.
They should hire Major, he is a young up and coming coach and while he will leave to take over for Mack at UT I don't think it will be for many years since Mack looks good and bought himself a free pass for a long time with the MNC. Number of years Major is around before Mack retires > than number of years Pardee has left period
Let's leave it at...YOU have no idea what WE are doing. Maggard built Miami......and he's IN THE PROCESS of doing a great job here. Again, there was a long time when the Prez and the AD here at UH were at odds. You had the breakup of the SWC and the Oval Office was finally able to impose it's will on the AD as if punishing a naughty child.Lots of factors played into our demise, but this was a major one.Losing Tubby going into a basketball conference over 150 K is but one example. It's no coincidence that when Maggard was brought in,Peace Pipes were smoked and people started to work together.Do you think UH could really have gotten him otherwise? Many of us have waited(and suffered) a long time for what is happening right now.If you don't comprehend what's going on...OK,but enough with that Cougar High stuff. We are a world class institution academically and our athletic program is on the rise again like the Phoenix out of the ashes. See what many fail to understand is that we were at or near the top of the mountain athletically.....pretty much across the board. It's easy to take potshots and kick a man when he's down. But I'll tell you what...Those potshots come from fear for the city of Houston has the best recruits in the country.....and we will keep enough of the local talent to be there again and the other schools KNOW it......FEAR resides. ...and how much of Jack's tenure at UH do you remember? Jack, much like Tom Penders, will be a bridge.Look at the "proposed" staff and how recruitingwise it blankets our area.It keeps the momentum going now like we need to and makes ready for the future. Now I'm just talkin here, but to me it seems Southern hospitality/ingenuity/DEVOTION still resides in a big way and when Houstonians put their heads together things get done. Sit back and enjoy the ride for the University of Houston is on it's way back. Rome wasn't built in a day! Turning a program around after everything we've been through is definitely a marathon, not a sprint. People will come, just like before.
Whoops, except Major declined to be interviewed, as he feels he's not ready to be a head coach, especially at a school he knows nothing about. I'm surprised you didn't know all about that, given how closely you've followed this coaching search. In fact, maybe you could start a new thread to complain specifically about Major!
Not to derail the thread, but did anyone else think this was going to be about a high school teacher sex scandal?
From what I heard, Major "had intrest" UH just like it has many, many times droped the ball. I want UH to get a new stadium, get into the big 12 or the SEC and become a major program with a large fan base but a move like this to bring in a coach who has not done anything in 12 years reminds me of when they brought Rumsfeld out of retirment to run the defense dept
He hasn't even been hired yet, quit jumping to conclusions. Michael Haywood has just as much of a chance to get the job based on what I have heard.
Pal, I don't know what to tell you. Michael Murphy reported that Applewhite was contacted and said "No thanks." If that's "droping" the ball, then there's really nothing more I can say. If Major says he's not ready to be a head coach, he's wrong in your opinion. Fine. I don't see how that is UH's fault. And until they do, they'll just be Cougar High, right? Your thread title tells me all I need to know about your feelings toward my alma mater and my home town. See you at the Texas Bowl, I'm sure.
I'll be at the Texas Bowl, I will wear Red. I don't think of UH as "Cougar High" the point of the title is they are droping the ball again and I think that if they want to shed that image they must do better than Pardee
If you're going to take shots at UH by calling it "Cougar High" then you might want to learn the difference between "it's" and "its". Just sayin'...
