Good comeback win on the road, but need non-Shead guards to step up. Won’t advance far if Cryer doesn’t become a reliable scoring/play-making threat. I think Wilson might be a better option off the bench than Dunn. Again, the free throw disparity was horrendous. Roberts scored 20 points on 10/15 shooting. Never got fouled? Please.
7th quad 1 win for UH this year when you can win not playing your A game, that’s always a great thing
Wilson has played better the last couple games. Definitely better than Dunn. It would be great if he can give reliable minutes. I’m not sure if Dunn will be able to adjust but he’s been a disappointment this year for sure. It makes me miss Mark so much more
What has happened to Dunn? No confidence. Maybe overrated. I was expecting a lot more from him and he has been a disappointment the entire year. He almost single handedly caused us to give up the big lead we started the game with. Smart on Sampson to not play him in the second half. Looks like Mylik Wilson is going to start getting some or most of Dunn's minutes. Those two shots Mylk hit were big down the stretch. Somehow, if it is possible, we need to get Dunn's head back in the game. We need more from him and Cryer or we are going to wear Shead out. First place rental in the Big 12 for another week. ETA : Looking forward to CKS post game press conference on this one.
It’s not a forgone conclusion that shead doesn’t come back for his last year of eligibility. Mercy is also more of a sasser/cryer type of combo guard and isn’t a true pg like shead/dejon/mercy
This has been the case for a few years now, right? The bigger issue is whether or not they can beat high octane teams when those teams are on their A game. More hope this year? Sorry, not been following as much and probably should stroll down to see a game before the season is over.
You're not wrong. Perfect offense beats perfect defense 100% of the time. When we run into a team that is on fire, we lack the firepower to keep up. It's just a numbers game for us. A team shooting 50%+ against a top tier defenses is extremely rare, but we've bumped into it before (e.g. Miami 2023). Luckily our offense has become less of a total liability over the years, so we can grind out wins that otherwise would be losses in years past (e.g. Villanova 2022)
Tbh when it comes down to March, UH beats team they’re actually supposed to beat. They’ve upset so many in the tourney on this road to being a now top program that those are easily overlooked. It’s just more common to remember the losses. When they lost to Baylor, they weren’t supposed to win that game. They were clearly the best team in the nation loaded with next level talent and KS has admitted that. 2 years ago they upset illinois/#1Arizona before losing to nova who went on to the title game. That #1 Arizona win doesn’t get talked about enough. 2 nba guards in mathuerin and terry. And their big Koloko who’s with the raptors. Last year sasser was never 100% when the tourney started and labored through it and they still made it to the sweet 16 vs Miami. It’s a damn shame we couldn’t see UH’s best player fully healthy for last years run. When it comes to the regular season, KS record speaks for itself here. Yeah they drop a few losses here and there but nobody wins all their games. It’s college basketball, upsets happen all the time. But they’ve done significantly more winning than losing especially at home. And UH is still building towards establishing themselves as a top program in the long run. They love the progress but far from satisfied.
I thought Shead's eligibility was up this yr? Sampson has always had an experienced PG since he took over at UH. Maybe someone from the transfer portal arise.
No, both seniors shead and Roberts still have an extra 1 year Covid eligibility if they choose to use it
Villanova game is the one that haunts me in there. That was such a grind-it-out game on both sides. That’s the game I was thinking about when i saw Cryer transfer…that he’d be a huge answer for UH if that situation came up again. I may have mentioned this before, but when Baylor played UH in the Final Four my kid and I decided to not watch that together lol. He went to watch with some friends, and I stayed home and watched with my wife. When he got home after the game he said, “I’m not even upset. If Baylor shoots like that, they’ll beat anyone. No one is going to beat a team that is on fire like that.” I thought, to a lesser extent, that’s what happened with Miami last year. They were just super hot.
UH takes care of business - especially in the tournament. They beat who they should beat - they typically beat their equals and even sometimes beat teams they should lose to.
