It must have been what the musician who went back to his cabin for his violin was thinking. I know some violins are rare and expensive but the idea that you would risk your life to save a violin is crazy. Sometimes, you just have to let go of material possessions and save yourself. If the violin was so great, then he should have had it insured in which case he could have used that money to get another one. Instead, he gave up his life for a piece of wood. That is not someone who had his priorities straight imo.
THANK YOU... REP FOR CARDPIRE FOR NOT BEING A MOUTHPIECE OF A CORPORATION AND FOR NOT BEING A STRAIGHT UP DUMBASS And now folks the video is coming out showing the failure on the part of the crew.. : <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gXV1uSb-5_c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Carnival needs to start confiscating those cell phone videos it's making the coverup plans not go so well. For those of you scapegoating the captain and jumping on me and cardpire what is your motivation? You are either A) stupid B) a carnival stockholder C)stupid D) stupid If only there was this new fangled thing that exists on even 20 foot boats called SONAR.. if only there was a 2nd , 3rd, 4th in command, if only there was this thing called 'training' .. if only there was this thing called 'personal responsibility' For those of you continuing to defend a CORPORATION this is what the facts look like and you look like right about now : LEAVE CARNIVAL ALONE !! POOR CARNIVAL !! POOR CORPORATION !! IT WAS THE CAPTAIN !! PAY NO ATTENTION TO THAT VIDEO AND ALL THE EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS AND FACTS!! WAWAWAWAWAAWAA !!

Sorry to interrupt your corporations are the devil rant but could you explain these comments? Are you implying they didn't have sonar and only had paper charts for navigation?
Im not implying anything except that the ship is sunk and on its side with dead people. The captain is saying the were using PAPER charts... the crew NOT THE CAPTAIN also should have access to equipment of some sort RIGHT? I mean yeah the captain is awake 24/7 the whole time and he controls the equipment through jedi mind tricks. If only there were others to monitor it.. they either didn't have equipment and that makes Carnival at fault.. or they did have equipment and werent monitoring it and that makes the crew, Carnival and the captain at fault because no one person should be monitoring equipment. If only there was some kind of central command at Carnival to keep an eye on these kinds of things The captain is a jackass but hardly the only one to blame. surely that one person monitoring things wouldnt have been just the captain. It goes back to simple training and back to guess who? CARNIVAL. You are cute casey thinking it's a big one man show up there and the captain and his big ole wheel.my gawd. Even the SS minnow had gilligan at 2nd in command .. wake up DUDE! This notion that it is ALL on the captain is scapegoating and a disgrace to those that did die. Carnival is so busy trying to scapegoat they cant even help their clients. People are having to fend for themselves in italy since Costa (Carnival) is too scapegoating.. and here again I find myself bothering to even engage you in any talk CaseyH Are you a stockholder or stupid? Which one?
You are calling me stupid and you don't know that these ships have the most advanced navigation systems available. They also use paper charts because all ships ALSO use paper charts. It is for redundancy and it doesn't fail. On a ship the buck starts and stops with the captain. He is responsible for his crews training, activity and actions. This captain is a total jackass. That makes the company at fault for hiring him.
Nobody has said that he was the ONLY ONE to blame. Everybody has been arguing that MOST of the blame falls on him for his failures as a captain. The crew can fail but if the Captain is failing alongside the crew you can damn well blame the captain for the failure. CNN posted an article of US passengers on the cruise recounting the incident, and they mentioned the inadequacy of the crew. HOWEVER they mention how the crew was clueless only because nobody from the top RELAYED the emergency down to the crew. Now when you're on the cruise, who's the "top"? IT'S THE ****ING CAPTAIN. Did I also mention that the captain called the kitchen up to serve him and a lady some food AN HOUR AFTER THE SHIP STRUCK A ****ING ROCK? It's not about cover ups, the captain is mainly to blame. Because of his failures it domino'd down to the crew. The only mistake the corporation made was hiring a complete chicken of a captain to captain the cruise.
What exactly does this video show that indicates the crew (excluding the commanders) failed?? The crew follows the captains orders. If the captain would give order to abandon ship I am sure they would do what they were trained to do in that situation. They were not going to leave if the captain told them not to. They are relaying orders from the higher ups whom they trust to make the important decisions and those individuals (captain, 2nd in command, etc..) have failed....not the crew.
IBTL...they had navigational equipment. But they can turn off the warning alarms. It is common to turn them off when entering/exiting port, because they go off incessantly when close to shorelines. The reason they turn them off and go to "paper" charts is because they have a local PILOT onboard navigating them into and out of the port. The captain could have left the warning alarm system on or requested a local pilot. He did neither. But yes, they should still be able to monitor huge rocks while turning off the alarm itself. That said, I still have no problem with blaming Costa ... and I certainly agree they are trying to deflect all their blame onto the captain. btw: Carnival Corp is one of my companies biggest clients, and I've been to the Costa office in Genoa. My job was to write a Environmental Risk Management and Regulation Tracking software app to cover every Carnival port in existence. We took cruises with them to experience a cruise from the perspective of the crew. They hired us, because their subsidiaries (like Costa) kept getting fined.
i seriously question the sanity, ability to think and reason behind some of these posts. It makes me scared to even think that these people are actually walking and driving amongst us. I hope they are just joking but sadly i think they are really that messed up in the head.
Thread needs more "you're stupid", alot more roll-eye smileys and some Febreze to cover up the smell of all the **** posts.
Yeah, but they never said what kind of paper charts they were using -- did you ever consider that a doctor may have been on the bridge.
The crew member with a radio in her hand, relaying information she was given said "on behalf of the CAPTAIN, please return to your rooms." The captain was trying to down play the incident. I'm not claiming all the blame should be on his shoulders, but that dude was the cause of the entire situation.....
