Speaking of loads of wasted money, here is yet another example of the DHS wasting millions upon millions of dollars. Virtual border fence a miserable failure DHS should be shut down immediately. What a massive waste of money.
There is a PBS Frontline report that puts forth that this is part of what Al Queda intends. Bin Laden and his partners are supposedly largely influenced by the book The Rise and Fall of Great Powers and very much view this as a war of attrition. They knew they could never take on the US head on, so they wanted to spread the US thin by getting it involved in as many overseas conflicts as possible. Knowing, as most of the literate world does, that the US has massive deficits and a decreasing number of soldiers, Bin Laden's group had been counting on drawing the US into an "intractable" war. Once we took the bait, they would have instantly have won. Why? Well, as they supposedly see it, they don't have to win, they just have to not lose. As long as they can plant a bomb here or there and kill a soldier here or there, look like they still exist, and keep us chasing them, then they haven't lost. The other thing is that when we have bled enough blood and money behind this misadventure, they will declare themselves victors for having out lasted us. The thing that gets me is that we didn't finish the job if Afghanistan, where Bin Laden actually was. We could have helped reconstruct that country and rebuilt it as an Islamic country under secular rule. It was really a unique opportunity. The Taliban had quashed a vibrant and secular element of Afghan culture. We mostly just had to revive it. Employing the assistance of NATO nations, we could have cost effectively created the democratic Islamic model nation the neocons were bleating about. Instead, we go on the Iraq foray and now not only are the Taliban having their own "surge" in Afghanistan, but they have spread further in western Pakistan while our own country continues to drain it self of national wealth. Great going commander-in-chief.
I'm not sure what your post is trying to say. I think it is saying that most Muslims don't want to take over the world, but I'm not positive.
There are a handful of smart people who plan attacks and then there are thousands of zombies willing to carry out those attacks. Also, I'm not saying let's teach them how to add and subtract and learn why commas go here and not there. A basic ability to read and write regardless of what language is fundamental in developing a logical thought process and decision making ability.
These Frontlines are actually pretty interesting. I've been watching them trying to find the one JeffB is referring to, but I can't. Does anyone know which one it is?
sweet. maybe theyll use that surplus to buy treasury bonds so that bush can run up the debt some more.
yeah, I was going to write the same thing. to think, people actually bought into these, seriously. the war would pay for itself. have you ever heard something so ridiculous. we're are inching up to the five year anniversary of this war. and most people were probably behind this thing up until katrina, when people finally began to realize how incompetent this administration is. the sad thing is watching bill maher friday, he had a clip of some interview with a col from iraq and a iraqi and someone else. the col (this older lady, she seemed to be a tough sob) was like even if the next president want to withdraw immediately it would take years just to get out of there. IOW she was basically saying we don't fully understand the mess we are in. its sad. its like every generation needs a war to teach them it should be avoided at all cost.
