I would probably do a Luther Head and Steve Francis for Mike Miller.

That would be my pick after Cassell. Szczerbiak is an excellent shooter and imo worthy to start at SG. He can shoot the three and McGrady could move to SF. Battier can come in for some defense or you can keep T-mac & Battier and let Sczerbiak come off the bench for 20+ mins per game. If he's really on the trading block it would a good move to get him. He was amazing against us this year.

I can't decide between Mike Miller and Sam Cassell.

Mike Miller would be a great perimeter threat and would open up the floor by hitting the 3. A consistant third scorer.

Sam Cassell would do wonders leadership wise on this team. He could mentor Yao and Tracy on what is takes to get over the hump. He did wonders for Elton Brand in that department. Plus Cassell is a clutch performer. He doesn't back down.

I wish we could get both.

I keep hearing that Cassell is going to get bought out. If that's true, all we have to do is dump someone like Snyder in order to pick Sam up.

Of course, Cassell may want to bolt to the Celtics...

No to Maggette. Needs the rock and costs too much.

I voted for Miller but don't think he's that realistic. We'd have to give up some prime assets to get him.

Cassell is the most realistic. 25 mins/game is all we need from him and we'll be immensely better at the end of games.

If i were Cassell i would go to the Celtics cause they have the most chance of a championship and he's played with KG & Allen. So even if he's bought out and the Rockets are interested, which they are NOT, the Celtics will have the edge.

Too bad, there goes the season.... :(

Mike James has shown an ability to flourish in what could best be described as 'non-pressure' situations. He has a career year playing for a lottery team, he's had his best runs (with the exception of the late-season stint on the first go-round with the Rockets) playing for teams that essentially had no hope of competing for a title, and therefore no real pressure to perform.

    Unlike here, this year.

Looking at our current roster, you see dead wood like James and Francis, and you wonder if either of those guys are ever going to contribute this season. I look and I say 'My God, this team needs a good young point guard!'. And then I remember Brooks, and realize that, yeah, we HAVE one, but he's at least a full season from truly being an answer at the position.

This means that, best case scenario, we pick up a good-but-aging point guard to give us a lift for a season or two and then hang it up, while Brooks gains experience and confidence - and jettison James and maybe Francis in the process and pick Harris back up.

If he can still play, Cassell has to be the guy.

Francis is about to announce he's going under the knife - Calvin Murphy

As for a trade to get a good pg, can't we get a guy like Monta Ellis? Even Beno Udrih would help us.

Who'd have guessed that there'd be a thread about Cassell and Mike Miller and the topic WASN'T about the ugliest players in the NBA?

    Hmmmmmm,

Wally would be a very interesting alternative to Mike Miller if Seattle would take back Mike James and expirings for him. I'd do that deal as long as we had agreement with Seattle to drop Bonzi so we can re-sign him for the playoff run.

Maggette, I used to really like.......before Landry emerged, as a very efficient scoring option that would force the foul count up and get us to the FT line. But now that Landry has emerged as the finisher and very highly efficient offensive player, I don't see the need for Maggette at his salary and I especially WOULD NOT trade Landry in a package for him. Landry and Scola are keepers to me. I don't want to mess with our big man combo......at all. We've got great defense (Hayes, Landry, and even Scola to some extent), great finisher (Landry), great post creator/passer/scorer (Yao/Scola). I'll take our bigs matching up against any other teams 4/5 combo bigs right now, even Utah. I don't think there's a team that we can't match up with in the NBA.

So, to me, it's a question of Cassell or Miller or whoever else we can get for our expirings plus Luther and/or picks. Getting Wally for James and expirings would be the same thing as getting him for just expirings since one of James/head ain't gonna play and it's looking more and more like James is just gonna collect paychecks and contribute nothing. Besides that, Wally's contract all of a sudden turns into an asset next year. I would bet Seattle is trying to pull another young player/pick for Wally, doubt they would take back just James, Luther, and expirings without a pick thrown in.

Cassell is a given if he wants to come here too. We've got to either get a more effective shooting PG or move Brooks into the lineup and let him get it together over the remainder of this season to be competitive to the Finals. Rafer's shooting won't get it done. (See sig)

Honestly, I would throw in next year's 1st rounder for Wally. Might sound absurd to the highest degree, but the way Landry/Scola/Brooks have panned out, adding in another rookie to the mix wouldn't benefit this team as much as a shooter like Wally would. And, of course, his 13 mil comes off the books after next season.

We get a much needed shooter/3rd scorer for the short term and possibly some caproom flexibility (and we really need that) in the long run.

i guess they really don't value the point guard position or believe that a guy who can control tempo, has low turnovers and can consistently hit open jumpers from anywhere is important to this team.

who do i want shooting the last shot to win a playoff game?

    Tmac

    or

    Sam

I'd pick Sam 100 out of 100 times. The only tough question if would be if it were between Sam and Horry and Maxwell.

Rafer was Sam's backup. let the newbs google that truth.

I'd take Mike Miller. not only is he a great 3 point shooter, he can also score. he can shoot the 3 well when teams swarm Yao, and he knows where to go when Tmac drives and kicks.

The Rockets have enough of Maggette in Bonzi.

Cassell would be great here for multiple reasons: feel good story and what he brings to the point guard position. His resume definitely makes him a good option: rings, clutch shooter, swagger, entry passing to big men...sounds good. But the Rockets have enough of injury prone players on the team. if he joins, then the Rockets' best players are all the most injury prone.

Plaxico Burress wasn't suppose to play the super bowl because of a bad shoulder and other injuries, he didn't practice for two weeks.

yet he caught the winning TD from Manning.

    Heart > Injury.

Many people who post see something in Cassell but he's behind in the poll. I smell corruption of the voting system, maybe the poll starter is behind the vote system that made Bush the president of the US ;)

Get Wally & Cassell = going to the WCF / Finals

Get either one = going past the 1st round

Get neither = 1st round loss

A 1st round pick (that might be in the high teens) for Wally World. You have to be kidding.

Plaxico even fell in the shower supposedly and tore a ligament. He got shot up and caught the winning pass.

But Plax didn't have to play defense...

Cassell's having a hard time on defense right now. Guards are blowing by him constantly. Bad news for Yao's foul troubles.

Cassell is already showing signs of breaking down. Don't get me wrong, he's a good presence to have on the team, but he's got to be on the court. I'd take him over Maggette though. I wouldn't even consider Maggette at all.

Cassell is a close second to Miller because of the makeup of the current roster. The Rockets could use more height and depth at the small forward position and better shooting.

I've been an advocate of getting both Maggette and Miller on this team in the past, but I voted for Sam Cassell. This team's biggest weakness is the pg position. Rafer will not cut it. I think if Sam's mins aren't outrageous, he can contribute. He has playoff and big game experience and it would be a nice way for him to finish his career where it started.

If you want Maggette or Miller, you would have to at least give up Battier. You have to do this for financial reasons and to open up a spot/mins for which ever of the two will be coming in. I wouldn't give up Bonzi, because he's a matchup nightmare in the playoffs. I would be all for giving up Battier, but I don't think the Rockets are going to give him up. I hope I'm wrong.
