BABIP is generally an indicator of skill in a large sample size (about a season and a half) in the minors and the majors for hitters. In the minors, BABIP is not an indicator of skill over 86 ABs.
They're still 3rd or 4th to last in overall attendance. Only 18,000 at Tuesday night's game. Those nut-jobs in Arlington started coming out to the stadium this week to see Joey CALLOW... and their "hot" Rangers team. Its not as bad here as years past... but still got a ways to go.... and Correa can definitely help accelerate that. No reason why there should not be at least 30,000 people there every night.
The team has been bad for years and not even on TV for millions of people for a year or two. If the team continues its good play then the crowds should be solid throughout the summer.
People weren't missing much when they weren't on TV... watching some of those games actually had a more negative effect on me.
Agreed, it will take time... but the whole point of bringing up attendance here was that Correa's possible "effect" on this can and should be taken into account by the front office. From now till August, the Astros "own" the sports $$$ in this city... they need to capitalize on it as much as possible, especially with a team currently in first place for the foreseeable future.
Well, the Rangers aren't that far removed from multiple WS and other playoff appearances. The Astros are not far removed from 100 loss seasons and a decade long playoff drought. It'll take more than this start. But I think the crowd will pick up now that today is the last day of school for a lot of large suburban disticts (Katy, cy fair, etc.).
And more people live in Houston vs. Arlington... and its a nicer stadium in Houston where fans can be more comfortable... and its a much better product. It also wasn't that long ago where a crowd less than 30,000 at MMP was unheard of... and this was well after the "new" effect of the stadium had passed. All I'm saying is that with #1 in the fold, attendance has a chance to accelerate faster... especially if there are that many people turned off by this team because of the past few years.
More people live closer and around MMP than live close/around Arlington. Sure, they can all come in from elsewhere in higher #'s up there... but they have to make more of an effort... which I'm not sure makes them even more "devoted" to the team. Again, this isn't meant to be turned into a Houston vs. Arlington argument... it was just an example of how a young player can "boost" attendance in the right circumstances.
That was me lol. Dwight is just awesome. He didn't turn one autograph or picture down. He loves this city. That hat made us all Crack up.
Btw I love the open roof at night. Yeah its warm but I didn't hear one person complain. I really hope with school out though the attendance surges. I've been to 6 games and even with 20,000 people it feels empty as hell. And don't eat dollar hot dogs. That line was sickening to see. People waiting for week old hot dogs.
Mike Tauser used to run Farmstros and used to keep a spreadsheet containing every player in the Astros organization, from the Major League team to the DSL. We may be out of the Super Two threshold... <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">After today, 119 service days remain in the 2015 season <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/SuperTwo?src=hash">#SuperTwo</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/EvanDrellich">@EvanDrellich</a> <a href="http://t.co/VBbAJLFeuH">http://t.co/VBbAJLFeuH</a></p>— Mike Tauser (@royal_worm) <a href="https://twitter.com/royal_worm/status/607595518093426688">June 7, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Nice... funny how it coincides with the worst stretch of baseball the big league team has played all year. Not only could the "expected/inevitable" move be coming soon... but it actually now is a much "needed" move.
I think it is setting up perfectly for Correa to be called up for Friday's home game. Past the Super 2 and got a home game following an off day (the last off day for 3 weeks). The Astros can make the announcement Thursday and give fans a day to make plans to attend the Friday night game.
