JW should only happen if we trade mike james away for a starting point or 2 guard.

I'd take a risk on Jay Williams. It's not like he's be expecting 1st round money anymore. I would just hate to sign him to a year deal and then lose him after he proves to the league he's back and desreves a nice contract. :( After all, the currnet Rockets squad should be able to make any point guard look good!

I recall in an interviw with him before a game (he wasn't playing, just analyzing) that the Rockets were a team he would want to play with. He wouldn't make an immediate impact on the team, but he could be a good bench player and eventually end up being our starter. It's not like we'll be getting any #1 and #2 draft picks in the foreseable future to draft these type of guys. Sometimes you have to take risks to get to the top. :D

Of course, then we'd have to sign Dunleavy, to really own that draft!

Maybe because i am a biased Longhon fan, Ford would be my #1 chance if the opputunity aroused. He's got the speed and the court vision. He can work on his jump shot later.

    For those with short memories....

    Williams: 26.1 mpg / 9.5 ppg / 32.2 3pt FG% / 2.0 A/TO

    Mike James (Rox only): 25.6 mpg / 12.5 ppg / 39.3 3pt FG% / 3.0 A/TO

None of us knows what Williams would have become over time. But IMHO it's unlikely he'll ever be more than what Mike James is now. And that is giving him a very high per cent of recovery.

We don't need projects - We need an established PG like DS, Jay Williams would be a project. His rookie year was far from stellar and given his high draft position and expectations, I would say he was a bust. Now you want him after a 2 year layoff and catastropic accident, I think not.

I agree with you. Mike James may never be a starting PG, but JWill wouldn't be a fraction of what he once was. I think we have better options out there, if we play our cards right.

    Jay Williams - A Rocket?

RealGM.com reports that the Rockets and Heat are after Jay Williams. I think he would be a great pickup - he wouldn't command a high salary (we could probably get him for the salary cap exception) and has so much potential. He could start coming off the bench and then hopefully, as he improves, make his way into the starting lineup, giving us the true point guard we need.

That would be great....he is a low risk possible high return guy.

Why not take a shot.....he would be better than Charlie Ward.

That doesn't say much. I wouldn't mind giving him a shot.

Why all of the fuss about signing JW to a league minimum salary?

BTW did JW do summer league this year? If not, he may be still a year away from NBA ready.

Too bad we can't get Chris Duhon instead. Now that kid would be a great pickup; but he's already turned down an offer from the Bulls for an amount close to the LLE.

Jay Williams? If he can go full speed, fine; if he's healthy, fine. He was a bit of a coddled...mn, not "punk," really, but he got too used to entitlement. I give him credit that he graduated in three years and such, and he was fast, but when the chips didn't fall his way in that first year, he kind of...quit trying?

I'm sure he's been humbled by that near-death experience and wouldn't wish that on anybody. If he can actually play, CD and JVG will find out.

It'd be kinda ironic (or am I mis-using that word a la Alanis Morissette?) to wind up with the #1 and #2 picks of the 2002 draft.

I'd love to see him make a full recovery and contribute to Rocket wins. Is there any news about that Sarunas J-whatever-his-last-name-is dude?

Mark Cuban had a show called "The Benefactor". That's who he is referring to.

Its been 3 or 4 years since the accident, I`m sure he has done his share of healing, I heard somewhere he`s dunking again and outplayed Chris Paul and the other point guards. I know CD scouted him before we picked Yao (thank God) so I know that CD is all over this kid. I just hope he`s healed.
