Do some rearch Citi, AIG, these are some of the largest multinationals in the world. This is not a partisan issue, these companies were literally too large to allow to fail. It would have been grossly irresponsible of the government. Mnay economists feel Lehman should not have been allowed to fail either. Are you paying attention to the current reform bill? All of the discussion is based on what to do about companies that are so large that their failure would risk the entire world economy.

Finance 101, buy stock you take a risk.

Give it time over 200 B of the bailout has already been paid back with interest.

How, what money is everyone talking about that he has "spent"?

Agreed, Obama claims he will save 250B by winding down the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We shall see.

There is no posturing, take a hard look at the legislation over the last 25 years. Which party has been pro deregulation, pro military spending, etc.? Look at the link from Wiki, under every Dem Pres the debt/GDP has gone down and under every Rep it's gone up.

It's frustrating to liberals because no one gave a damn about the debt until a Dem President had to deal with it and the worst economic downturn in a century and suddenly it's all his fault.

This is where you show your bias as a contented moderate.

The mere fact that Obama has won shows little about the "left wing". He is a relatively moderate mostly corporate Dem. The Dems keep moving to the right and no matter what they do they are called "socialists" etc. by the conservatives who have completely taken over the Republican Party. The GOP is now almost completely consumed by the Limbaugh-Tea Pary types. The whole political debate has shifted in this country. Richard Nixon proposed policies that are about as "left" as Obama.

The moderate occasionally liberal mainstream press is in no way a counterweight to the intensely right wing Fox and talk radio. It is useful for conserervatives to put forward this position. We have basically a political discourse virtually devoid of a "left" as seen in other countries. If you are actually an aware moderate you would recoginize this.

Yeah, (sarcastic) Obama shows the left in ascendancy as he expands a war in Afghanistan, has a very timid healthcare plan that forces folks to buy insurance company product, cuts a deal with big pharma.

As a moderate consensus maker who is afraid of the right wing Obama is doing ok, but don't mistake him as a leftist even in the Tea Partiers call him a socialist.

Don't get me wrong Obama is better than a third Bush term i.e McCain but a big liberal, give me a break.

America today is like playing a rigged shellgame. Regardless of what you do or who you elect, the rich get richer and the poor remain poor.

I just cannot believe this is what the Framers of the Constitution had in mind. I could be wrong though.

Was the Argentinian Peso too big to fail for its people? What about the Soviet Union and the Eastern European bloc, were they big enough not to fail? The US govt. will not be able stop the inevitable demise of our financial system, no matter how worried they claim they are for the world and no matter how much fear & patriotism they flood taxpayers with to garner public support. Wall Street is not the only moneychangers and financiers on the block - the world will continue on.

And regarding the Dems and deregulation, current Director of the National Economic Council Larry Summers is guilty as sin for helping repeal Glass-Steagall and deregulate derivatives contracts during Clinton's tenure. Dem or Repub, it doesn't matter as they are both servants to the banking club.

He may not be a "big liberal," but he is a big liar. He will also expand the size of the federal budget a great deal.

    Obama lies:
    1. Leaving Iraq - At last check, we are still there with no real movement to withdraw.

    2. Closing Gitmo - Still open for business.

    3. No increase in taxes for those making under $250,000 - If he enacts a VAT tax, it will truly be a regressive tax. The poor will bear a disproportionate share comparatively.

    4. "Bankruptcy reform to allow judges to modify mortgages will be a priority." - When this came up for debate and vote in Congress, nothing but crickets were heard from the White House.

These were four things that I heard from him time and again during the campaign. He, thus far, has put the wheels in motion to deliver on none of them. If he fails to do so, then he will be a big old liar.

No conspiracies, just reality. If everyone is in tune with reality, then we see that the monsters under the bed were just an illusion and they go away.
