Agreed, I've always thought he was overrated. Besides, we need to go after a 4 or a 5 (after we sign James) instead of more 2's and 3's.
We can sign James to the MLE and use the 4.2 TE for Lorenzo Wright. He always plys great against us. He might play good for us. We do need a backup for Yao. He can also play the 4 for better rebounding.
You guys know what's ironic about this thread? The clippers might do a straight up trade of Battier for Maggette. I'm dead serious, they wanted to move him for a more defensive player. Battier makes less money and defends. But it wouldn't be a good trade for us, surprisingly.
i agree. i think bonzi's talent would compliment us well. bonzi attacks the D. maggette shoots when he is open. i'll take some one who attacks the D.
Well if we get either bonzi or maggette we will be tha champs! I would do a battier and head for maggette and a pick!
thacabbage is spot on about maggette.......i'd rather have the other clipper, quinton ross, at 2 guard for us...
Quinton Ross is a very good defender but he has limited offensive ability. We need scoring and defense from the 2 guard spot.
Maggette isn't that bad... how many guys really play tough defense these days? His career fg% is right around 45%, good for a guard these days. He also gets to the line, shooting well around 10 freethrows per game. But I agree, I don't want Maggette on the Rockets. He doesn't fit the Rockets game plan. He's a 20 point scorer, we don't need that, Yao and McGrady are both 20 point scorers, theres not enough ball for someone like Maggette. We need guys who can come in and play hardnosed defense and knock down open shots when Yao passes out of the post or McGrady drives and dishes.
We know Battier will be manning the 4 at least part of the time,so that calls for an atlhletic 2/3. Just recently Maggette has gotten more serious about his game.Look at his body, his stat lines.....the way he can impact a game.Yes,he still makes bonehead decisions and sometimes doesn't play up to his capabilities on defense, true. It IS obvious that he's a work in progress(didn't get much time at Duke and has been in Clipperland too long),Maggette brings much to the table now though. He can get in the lane at will, will hit the deep jumper, and is a beast on the boards.Corey's defense doesn't worry me as I feel it will improve. At the very least he is a major role player for a title contending team with huge upside.Lets put it this way,I'd take Corey right now over Rudy Gay..risk/reward factor, present production, and all that stuff. Bonzi is more of a known commodity.Offensively,I'd want Bonzi, but I have questions about his attitude, his ability to woirk on D,and cleaning boards.Plus I don't see him providing the flexibilty like CM.Don't get me wrong.I'd go to war with Bonzi, but I feel Magggette has the potential to be something special.
