I think it's an entitlement feeling. One side feels that because they spent some money that they are entitled to being comfortable as they wish. I understand this from a consumer's rights point-of-view. The other side is about obligation as a fan. A true Rockets fan spends money on the team and is willing to sacrifice his/her own well-being (comfort, vocal chords, tired legs, everything) in order to support the Houston Rockets and help them win by making as much noise as possible and making the opposing team feel uncomfortable. It is very true that a great home crowd can intimidate opposing teams and the referees. The Toyota Center crowd is half and half. The lower deck is filled with mostly entitled people, while the upper deck is filled mostly with true fans.
Amen...some of us aren't lucky enough to have tickets. It bothers me that there are people that are able to get tickets that just sit down the whole freakin' game!
An interesting idea is to have a "standing" section during the playoffs. Although you might have to charge less, you could probably fit more people in the area to compensate. And you know only die-hard fans would pack themselves in their.
LOL standing sections. Imagine that. The standing section should be packed so tight that people can't move.
Used to be standard in european soccer stadiums but things can get crazy and after a few major disasters happened where people got crushed etc they have been pretty much outlawed.
Standing at appropriate times shouldn't get anyone in trouble. Bad mouthing those standing is reprehensible. But none of it is as bad as going over and trolling another team's message board after only 2 games in a series have been played.
