Well, they definitely sat down when the cop yelled at them... ...and by standing "most of the time" I mean that it seemed that they were standing up and clapping & hooting for pretty much every Rockets possession until the cop came. they went up & down during the Mavs time... Anyways... the Mavs are staying at the Four Seasons downtown guys. Somebody assemble a group of drummers and go bang away tonight below their windows. Or prank call them. I hope they get insomnia. We have to win tomorrow. We have to...
I dunno dude, if i stand up to see cuz the guys are infront of me are standing up than the people behind me have to stand up. ( and im 6'6) and it keeps going... I mean your gonna have some kids back there some elderly folks and some obese people. So in the end you will have somebody unhappy.. I mean you pay big money for a "seat" not a spot in the stands. I stand all game when I go to a tech football game but those are all drunken, healthy college students so its no big deal nobody is going to have a hard time seeing/standing... I didn't go to the last nights game but I am defintely planning on going to one in the next round when I get back to H-Town..When I do I'll bet Ill be one of the loudest guys in TC but I will be sitting down and i hope the guy in front of me will do same making all the noise he wants.
This story has given me an idea to make the TC a louder place. Tear out all the seats, and give each fan a one-legged stool when they come in. Then, people will basically be standing all the time, but can sit on their one-legged stool occassionally (and still be half-standing) when they get tired. And, once they're standing, they may as well be yelling too. Plus, everyone who thought of a ballgame as a good time to do the crossword (which someone I sat next to in the lower bowl last time I went to a game apparently thought) would stay away.
Is anybody going to do what I said you should? Whats the point in complaining if your not going to do anything about it.
They should just have a special section for people who don't like all the standing and cheering. We'll give these people special seats in the basement.
If I was the guys that got told to sit down I would have without a problem, then I would have turned around and yelled "GO ROCKETS!!" at their face everytime they made a great play untill they get pissed off and then I would have called the "COPS" on them... F*ing bastards!!
Well, if that happened then there would be an entire stadium of people standing & being loud. The horror!
I blame the Rockets loosing to these guys!! Maybe, just maybe, if they actually stood up and cheered at the game and not just sit being like a prissy old fart... then maybe... we could have won! Why? Well if the place was really loud and crazy then the freaking Mavs wouldnt be able to concentrate and stink up the place.
I don't doubt that security/cops were responding to the complaint, even if they complaint wasn't justified. In general the slam against TC fans for being too quiet, seems like much ado over nothing. I don't think they were too qiuet. They could have been noisier but it wasn't a case of the whole building being not interested. That just isn't true. But in certain cases when folks are being told to sit down, I would be angry too. If somone yelled at me to sit down, and seemed the kind of person to go to security, I think I would make a pre-emptive move and go to security and tell them that other fans were busy yelling at me and harassing me while I was trying to peacefully enjoy the game.
"Paul" with the Rockets is looking for someone to handle my complaint/clarify their policy... Transferring me to Customer Service...
Got someone named "Elena's"(sp?) voice mail. Left her a long message. Left her my phone number. If she doesn't call back by 2 p.m. I'll try again. I also urge, as DCballer has, anyone else who was yelled at or witnessed this kind of crap to call in and complain.
I don't understand the point of calling. If it directly happened to you, it'd make sense, but even though you think you know everything that happened, I'm guessing you don't. I can understand being pissed if you're being asked to sit down whenever you stand up and cheer for a basket, good play or during critical moments of the game. However, if you're standing the entire time, you have to take into consideration the people around you. It's called common courtesy.
If it really went the way you say it did, the old folks probably called because the guys were standing in front of them the whole time, not just when folks were cheering. I have never - ever - been to a game where people simply stood in everyone else's way for the entire duration of the game. And I've been to Rocket games, a lot of Texan games (first year included) and last year's Astros playoff run (which was an incredible feel in Minute Maid). Those times were still rocking. Being overzealous and inconsiderate to those around you while thinking you are somehow a 'better fan' ruins the experience just as much and sitting there being dead silent when everyone else is cheering. Both types have made awesome game experiences a f**king embarrassment.
Elena is not the right person, but she forwarded the message to Holly who takes care of these things. I can tell you that all of us are not happy about this.
I don't get this attitude at all. (Anybody else remember the old school SNL skit at the concert?) Does anybody seriously think standing up while cheering affects the game/players any differently than sitting and cheering does? The complainants in this case were elderly, correct? Any possibility that they have a bum knee/bad hip, and can't keep rising/falling based upon their peers' whims? Maybe they were short of stature, and wouldn't have been able to see even if they did stand? There's an incredible amount of engineering that went into giving each seat the best possible sight lines. Why screw that up based upon a minority's antsiness? I'm relatively healthy, and yet I would be irked if I coughed up the money requisite to see a playoff game and had my view blocked in the stretch run by a pituitary hopeful in next year's draft. If someone stood up in a movie theater, they would be hissed/beaten mercilessly. Same thing in the theater. I saw Denzel Washington as Brutus recently; it was a great performance. Key word there: saw. At least at a concert when this happens I'm there to hear the music. I recognize that a game is a live event, and the behaviours of basketball/football fans are in some ways able to influence the players, and that protocol differs here from a sport like tennis, but I seriously doubt that T-Mac, mid-crossover, either notices or cares that in the cheap seats Superfan Chestpaint is standing or sitting while he's banging on his noise-makers and screaming his head off. Yell all you want. If I don't like it I'll bring ear plugs. But please, let me at least watch the game.
RM95, The point of calling is to complain about how the security officer handled the issue & to clarify the Rockets/Toyota Center policy on standing during the games. Maybe you don't give a rat's ass - good for you. I attend enough games - and have been a mini-pack holder for years now - so to ensure that I don't get berated by HPD sometime in the future, I'd just like to make sure I stay within the paramaters of what is considered acceptable cheering by the Rockets & the Toyota Center. And again, I saw both groups file in, and I heard everything from beginning to end. They were a couple of feet away from me. They had no contact until the older gentleman started angrily demanding they sit. But maybe you're right - maybe they got into a shoving match in the corndog line on the concourse & the anger spilled over into the standing incident. Anyway, Elena gave me the phone number of another Customer Service person named Holly who apparently handles these things. She also forwarded my message to her so hopefully we'll find out soon.
