Not to diminish the value of your personal experience, nor your interpretation of Steve's desire to not play in Vancouver ( which somehow didn't translate to Toronto, where he said he'd be happy to play), but the numbers, both those which I posted and those which JV posted don't bear you out. Add to this the fact that people of visible minorities who come to Canada from the States commonyl mention the racial harmony and mix here...oh, well. And, as a side note, there are a ton of Maritimers who you'll want to duck on your next trip North...
I think this thread is starting to toe the line of threads that should probably be put in the D&D. It's easy to see how a discussion about cops has degenerated into a discussion about racism... but maybe this isn't the proper forum.
It sucks what happened to you. That being said, what do you think a police officer should do if he gets a call that says someone pulled a gun?
So if someone calls the police, and the police get no testimony from anyone but the caller, the first thing they should do is send someone to question the caller? Maybe I'm weird, but if I call the police and tell them that someone was threatening me with a firearm, I would hope their response would be to go and catch the person I said was threatening me. As much as a lot of people on here seem to hate the police, you sure do give them a lot of credit. Somehow, unlike the average human, a police officer is supposed to magically know that the person who called the police is not only making a false statement, but had actually been harassing the person he is calling the police on before making the call. If I get these kinds of superpowers, I will really have to consider becoming a cop.
When I called the police when my neighbor was threatening me, they came to speak to me first to get my story before going to talk to my neighbor.
Sorry Hydra, but I did leave out a specific detail. When the police did show up and we were finally put in the back of patrol cars the guys that started the whole mess were conveniently parked across the street at a gas station. When my friend noticed this he yelled at one of the police "There's the guys you need to searhc right there!" and pointed towards their white truck. As soon as my friend pointed the truck took off 90 to nothing and the policeman said we're on it but the pigs failed to move, they just kept searching my friends cars. After they found nothing they failed to take down our descriptions of the suspects and their vehicles which we were trying to give them, hell my friend knew some of the guy's names and the pigs still didn't bother with his statements.
considering when BBob said it happened...it used to. 20 years ago was when around the time that the local KKK headquarters was just closing down. It actually may have happened more like 25 years ago...but I know when I grew up there we used to see it there on Red Bluff. Hell..in my graduating class(83), we only had one black guy...it has only been in the last 10 years that more and more minorities have moved there(Middle eastern, Asian, black)..there has never been a shortage of hispanics there..I know that.. Pasadena is just like any other suburb of Houston at this point as far as racial diversity goes..
Thank you do, but its no point on arguing with Stupid Moniker on this. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59829 In this thread, a cop has been convicted of lying to get a 46 people arrested, its stated that some of his motives were racial, and yet StupidMoniker questions why some of the prisoners were released.
Having significant ties to the Panhandle, I'm more than familiar with the Tulia case (and I did read the thead originally). I doubt those in Dallas convicted of possession of pool chalk garner much sympathy, either. I wasn't trying to argue. Logically speaking, I would also expect the first priority of the police to secure the firearm that's been reported. But in my practical experience, that isn't the way they've done it, so I was merely offering a piece of my experience to highlight the way I've seen things done (to further that, when I had a car stolen, the police drove right by where it had been ditched to get to my house. Despite having a description of the car and the license number, they came to our house first, rather than checking out the now-abandoned car, even though if they had checked out the car and perhaps looked around the neighborhood, they could've caught the car thief that was, possibly, walking not far away). Why is it ironic that Tulia is in Swisher County, by the way?
