I've always heard by word of mouth that it is illegal for cops to sit on the side of the road at night without their lights. Does anybody know if that's true or not?

I got off one time by refusing to let them search my car.

It was at Fitzgeralds off white oaks i believe and me and a friend were inside the club when they called me out of the club over the loudspeaker just announcing the type of car I drove and saying there was a problem outside, I'm thinking illeaglly parked or something. When I get outside they have this young punk cuffed in the back of a squad car and inform me that my truck was broken into by him, after letting me select my stereo from off the back of the squad car (the kid had atleast ten stereos when he was busted) the cop informed me that they needed to speak with me regarding another issue.

My pal and me had burned all the way to the club and there was still a sack in the center console of the truck. So they pulled me aside and asked me to sign a consent to search form and I refused knowing they had already found whatever they were looking for because I'm sure the truck reaked. So after they threaten to bring in the drug sniffing dogs and I say go ahead they tell me what they've found and confiscate it and they give me the whole lecture, yadda, yadda, yadda.

I'm guessing the reason they didn't pursue it further was because either they felt sorry for me because I was in fact the victim of a crime or because the kid was in my truck the dope could have easily been his.

I've gotten off of possesion charges a couple of times in our good city. One time I was already cuffed and the weed was found and the cop asked me "This isn't really weed is it?", I told him it was and he looked at me again and repeated the same question kind of guiding me to say it wasn't. "No sir, it isn't", I answered. He actually gave the weed back to me and told me to throw it away when I got back inside the bar we were at. It was only about a joint with papers but I still thought I got off pretty good. And of course I threw it away as soon as I could;)

There are cool cops out there I guess.

One time I was driving around 12:30 AM in a parking lot alongiside a strip center to get to a restaurant and a damn cop was comin up the other way, in MY lane with his headlights off. I damn near hit him but was going slow enough to avoid him. WTF?!? That's just dangerous for the both of us. There should be a law against cops having their headlights off.-

Sounds like a case of driving while black.

Do they ever actually give you tickets in the Benz?

Heck, I can ride around in this bad boy, with my Old English 40oz hanging out the window, my wave towel flapping in the wind, and two prostitutes in the back seat making out without getting pulled over.

I can relate to this one.

I used to have hair down to my belt, and a beard that reminded some of Billy Gibbons...and I hung with guys that also had long hair..........in Pasadena.

Can you imagine how often I got pulled over for no reason?

    It was alot...trust me.

Right after I met my wife...I was driving her brand new Lebaron convertible and talking to her on her car mounted cell phone(back when not alot of people had them yet)....I got pulled over just cause he figured that the car was stolen.

Nowadays...it doesnt happen to me any more..but then again..with the tinted windows in my SS, they cant exactly see what I look like...and I normally keep my hair pulled back(it is just past my shoulders)....I guess the cops aint worried about a old hippy anymore..and they have more of a reason to pull me over these days..I cant seem to get my SS to go under 5mph over the speed limit these days...cant understand why... ;)

got pulled over once for speeding on the highway. the cop literally trailed me for about 5 miles and waited for me to exit before turning his lights on. he comes to my window and asks for my DL and insurance and then asks, "Do you know why I stopped you?".
    I said, "b/c i was speeding?"
His reply was, "do you know how fast you were going?"
    I say, "65-70?"
    He says, "try again"
    I say, "ok, 80."

he goes back to his car to check up on my records and comes back and says, "well, since you were honest with me, i'll let you go. just don't drive so fast next time."
    :D :D :D

man, i was relieved. my dad would have kicked my a$$.

I got one for an illegal lane change (no signal) and a missing front plate. It's no fun to drive that car because I can never relax.

Well I will trade you my piece of **** straight up. Maybe you would feel more at ease in it. It would be a sacrifice no less to drive your Benz, but I would do it to make you feel secure in the land of whitey. :D :D

    1) Cops, in general, are idiots.

    2) Cops, in genral, are racist.

    3) Cops, in general, are the kind of guys who want a decent paying job right out of school which comes with a sense of personal power. Unfortunately, it allows for very little actual advancment, it exposes you to a lot of crap, and it introduces you to one of the wrost, if not THE worst groups with an US vs. THEM mentality, and allows people in the system few choices but to abide.

IMO, the police ( and teachers) should be better paid, and have higher standards. They are two of the most important, least appreciated professions in society. Raise the bar and the paycheck.

I got a ticket for missing the front license plate (which rusted off). I was a long-haired, do-rag-wearing teenager driving a flashy old Porsche so I was profiled in a way. I swear the front license plate law solely exists as a pretext to pull people over. I did beat the ticket in court. Despite the hassle, I don't know if I minded being profiled like that. I kind of appreciate that an effort is being made to find stolen cars (can't they run the license plate without pulling people over first? Or are their computers too slow?). If the profiling was just racially-based though (which it wasn't in my case), it'd suck.

Summer Song Giver, if you don't mind my asking, what is your race? Since we're talking about racial-profiling.

AB you used to be a cop right - does that help you get out of some of those tickets or are they just pulling you over to 'check you out' or whatever they might think up?

I was going to post this in a couple of threads back, particularly the two threads in which the one cop shot a kid in the car here in houston, and the other shot a kid immediately after detaining him while playing a playstation.

I think the problem with the nation's police departments are the standards aren't high enough. Make it some what applicable to FBI standards and increase the paycheck, but if you had a better police force, you wouldn't have to hire as many and it would balance out.

Two Detriot Police Officers Shot and Killed

    CNN link

DETROIT, Michigan (AP) -- A motorist pulled over in the middle of the night for a seemingly routine traffic stop got out of his truck and pumped several bullets into the two police officers who stopped him, killing them both, police said.

Officers Jennifer Fettig, 26, and Matthew Bowens, 21, were shot about 2 a.m. Monday, becoming the 18th and 19th Detroit officers killed in the line of duty since 1990.

Police used the suspect's driver's license, found in the police cruiser, to arrest Eric L. Marshall, 23, later Monday at his home. The unemployed Detroit man was likely to be arraigned Tuesday, Chief Ella Bully-Cummings said.

The traffic stop had not been called in to police dispatchers. "We don't know what they stopped him for. It's hard to say," said Cmdr. Craig Schwartz of the Major Crimes Division.

Sorry, but it seemed sadly relevant. It's one difficult job, that's for sure. If my colleagues at work got gunned down like this, I'd turn into a lot more of an ******* with motorists also. But I'd hope not a racist *******.
