How is 10% an adequate tip. Apparently ya'll haven't worked in the restaurant industry. And before Around lectures me about no contributing to the tip jar I'm a broke college student ;).

Anyways the person is probably Ben from lost and has a reason for you in the future.

Not at all...I talked to a (beautiful) girl in the bar across the street where the company-sponsored party took place (she actually spoke German, too), but I didn't see her anywhere in the other bar. She also seemed more like a girl that likes to be invited...rather than to anonymously pay for someone else's food ;). I didn't really notice anyone looking at me, either.

Haha...I actually spilled some mustard on my shirt...maybe someone DID feel bad because I am just too clumsy. I was wearing a suit, though, so I didn't exactly look like a homeless dude :).

I waited for 2.5 years. Go find a job where you don't expect the customer to subsidize your salary.

I'd be scared. :) I have friends who live in Oxon Hill (where you are). Don't leave the National Harbour Tourist area.

Fair enough. In about 5 minutes, your $20 is being donated to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in honor of clutchfans.net. You're still a cheap Euro though. ;)

    Okay, I'm a dork...just looked it up:

    http://www.publichousenationalharbor.com/menus.php?catid=8

Total bill was actually just $ 23.

But as I said, it didn't matter as I took it as "everything (including tip) is paid already" and I didn't have more cash on me. If I had just had a $ 10 bill, I would have left that. If I had just had three $ 1 bills, I would have left those...

I think we had a thread not long ago about tipping but in any case... your servers (at least in Texas) get around $2-3 so it's customary to leave a 15-20% tip. Many times when someone else takes care of the bill they don't leave a tip some do but not the majority. In many restaurants servers share their tips with other staff such as bartenders, bussers, food runners/expos, and even host staff. So, just because the waiter wasn't around at all times, if your service was satisfactory (meaning you got everything you asked for), you should still tip because someone else was probably doing what you might think was the servers job. No, I'm not saying drop a $20 but $8-10 would have been great. Great story nonetheless.

    P.s I'm not a contributing member so what do I know :D

You're in a tourist island so you're fine, and across the river is fine too. But your zip code, you're overall locale is not good. Just stay in that enclave. There's nothing around except hotels and restaurants and some brand new condo developments.

I would feel really creeped out if this happened to me. Who picks up the tab for someone and doesn't at least come over and introduce themselves?

Well considering I'm in school that's hard. I've been doing it for over 3 years and considering I don't want to take a career when I graduate because I plan on going back for my JD and MPA I will probably wait tables a little longer :). So don't be a douche.

Quit giving ATW so much flack for not tipping. He's Asian. I'm surprised he even left 5 bucks.
