Speaking of openers, my band is opening for Electric Six and Junior Senior later this October. Freak, have you been haunting the Hands Up Houston board? This is quite a change from your usual preference of 80s rock.
My friends, who are into the whole hardcore and alike scene, have brought me to a few of their shows. I have to applaud how any band can build a following of that sort, and perform at that level. Though, never has the gap between current music and myself been so prevalent. I'm not quite sure when it started, I remember a time when I would listen to new groups and such. But, when Walt and Pulltab are the only most recent artists in my collection, I think it's pretty much over. I guess the writing was on the wall when at concerts of The Go Go's and Paul McCartney, I would be the only person born in my decade.
the long winters "relaxed, good songwriting stuff, excellent singing harmonies" - a bit like Ryan Adams meets the byrds, or so. peaches "b****y girl with a mixture of beastie boys, joan jett, new day electroclash stuff - horny lyrics" robocop krauss "german band in the same vain like hot hot heat, but with a bit of emo-core influence, it would say" the pearlfishers "not a new band, but just put out a new record". This is the sound that Brian Wilson would do if still making good music". pretty girls make graves "pretty good alternative/girls band with amazing singer. Great liveband." simian "puhh, also no new band, but since their last album *we are your friends* was just so excellent I imagine them the emerge. and again HOT HOT HEAT
Cool... You obviously haven't heard The Darkness... I wouldn't say it's QUITE a change (in fact I would say E6 sounds a little 80s), nor would I say 80s rock is my 'usual preference'...
ok, this is some brand new stuff which is excellent: The fiery furnaces: Gallowsbird's bark Brother and sister Friedberger with an excellent debut and NO they do not sound like the White Stripes. How do they sound: The understand the blues in the same way, yesss, how the white stripes does, BUT they have deadly-crippled arrangements. Moog synthesizers, 60's wah-wah-guitars, jazzy fusionjerking, lovely filigrane fol, comedy-music, change of tempo here and a little insert there and everywhere a piano which does not belong here but matches so incredibly well to this arranged madness. Nice, small lyrics like "he's a married man, but he'd come to see me some time"..... put's the sauce on it. ehhm, yes I love em.
Some think Hot Hot Heat just came out because they are getting some mainstream play all of a sudden. But in reality, they already have like what? 2 albums out? The second one (Makeup the breakdown) is way too short though.
Thrice is pretty good. If you like them check out boysetsfire. I especially like the song, "My Life in The Knife Tirade". It's softer, but it is a great song.
I dunno if anybody listens to British music, but I hear Led Zeppelin are pretty good. As are the Beatles.
Nice suggestion. I think I'll have to make another: Billy Talent(even though I don't listen to them much, I think they will blow up soon).
