Perhaps you're reading articles by people who listen to rap? My sources don't listen to rap at all. I bought it for the Dre disc, I'm guessing you got it for Big Boi. Crap, we could've split the cost and each taken the CD we wanted.
heard the new coheed and cambria tonight. its not too bad. i was never a huge fan so you might really like it. it begins with a song from the soul calibur soundtrack. my friend bought it at midnight and got a free t-shirt and an equalvision dvd. i think the shirts are in limited supply so get there early tommorrow if you want one. brian
I think the Outkast album is just as good as their others, just as weird and just as funny. I like Andre's John Coltrane jones he's on right now and I think it is great they are being rewarded for pushing the envelope some more. This may not be their "Sign O' The Times," but it may be a longer "Parade" and that's pretty good (Prince fans, represent). Plus, "Hey Ya" is an almost perfect song. "Ladies, lend me some sugar...I am your neighbor!" Big Boi is really underrated, too. I think the discs have more in common than a lot of people realise. Other comments: I love 50 Cent's flow, but all that hard **** isn't that interesting 25 years into the game, you know. Hip hop is still the most innovative music around when it wants to be, but God, I am so over the ego crap. Yes, you're all bad MF's, loads of bling, bling and shorties and we know *exactly* where you're from. Having said that, three of the best singles of the year are "In Da Club," "Crazy in Love" (Beyonce and Jay-Z) and, er...."Rock Your Body" by Justin Timberlake (sorry, it's just cool. The Neptunes/NERD are Gods...just put this song on a mix tape with "Another One Bites the Dust," by Queen and "Rock With You" by Micahel Jackson and dodge the flying panties!) Good call on the Stephen Malkmus, Blur and Broken Social Scene records, DCKid. Love 'em all. Funny how two of the best albums of the last few years are Graham Coxon's last solo album and "Think Tank." I wish those crazy kids would bury the hatchet and make nice.
Nelly Furtado - Folklore (out 11/25/03) and... Jin's (the chinese rapper) highly anticipated (and also highly delayed) album on Ruff Ryder Records.
Meanwhile...caught in the eye of a Blizzard of Flames...in order to survive, the AlphaDenim recruits were forced to strip down to their...SCANDINAVIAN LEATHER
i think my taste in more along the lines of dckid and sister ray. in any case here are some of my faves this year (i'm forgetting a ton, but here are some. I'll add more later...) broken social scene brother ali yeah yeah yeahs strokes the rapture the decemberists radiohead kanye west album of the year.....Outkast
definitely Matchbox Twenty, Dave Matthews, 50 Cent, and John Mayer.... Haven't heard all of Outkast, and I'm waiting on Sarah MacLachlan.
Saves the Day "In Reverie" is pretty good. I guess you have to like Emo to really enjoy it, but it has its moments. That Vendetta Red cd is pretty cool as well.
The Broken Social Scene and New Pornographers CDs would rank in my top ten of the last decade never mind this year. Also in the outstanding category: The Notwist – Neon Golden The Wrens – Meadowlands Very good: The Weakerthans – Reconstruction Site Young and Sexy – Stand Up For Your Mother CDs I’m interested in but haven’t heard much of yet: The Constantines Hot Hot Heat
Outkast- "Speakerbox/Love Below" I think it is a ground-breaking record in many ways. Andre is a better Prince than the former Artist and his disc is my clear favorite of the two. Big Boi's disc is more Outkast than "Love Below," but there are some songs on there that are on the weak side. As far as compared with their past albums, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik was a very tight debut, ATLiens was improved, Aquimeni was unbelievable(the Dark Side of the Moon of hip-hop)and Stankonia was 95 percent as good. I think their double disc is as good as Stankonia and to me is more interesting in its use of some many genres on the Andre disc. Erykah Badu- "Worldwide Underground" I hate that it is an EP, but there is no filler on this disc. My faves on there are Back in the Day (Puff), which to me has one of the greatest hooks ever and I Want You, which despite the elongated and repititive intro, is worth waiting for. What a great CD and worth a spin.
i think some of you would be interested in a music site i run... www.prefixmag.com (24/7 news on indie rock, hip hop mixed in with features and reviews) (we interviewed the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs and have an interview with Broken Social Scene in Oct.)
More Props to Outkast here. The Love Below is creative. Speakerboxx is typical party music with a few specials, and many guest appearances like many rap CDs. Big Boi's still underrated. But Benjamin Andre is fantastic. Roses Caroline, see Caroline all the guys would think she's mighty fine But mighty fine only got you somewhere half the time, and the other half either got you cussed out or coming up short Now even though, you need a golden calculator to divide the time it took to look inside and realize that real guys go for real, down to Mars girls I know you like think your **** don't stank, but lean a little bit closer see that roses really smell boo-boooo roses really smell boo-booooo Classic
Jet - Get born Trail of Dead - The Secret of Elena's Tomb (ep) Mars Volta - de-loused... Jane's Addiction - (this album is better than Ritual... and is not getting proper respect) Yeah Yeah Yeah's - Fever to tell Many more previously mentioned - Outkast etc. etc... I can't believe it's already Oct. - 2003 is almost gone.
